Posted by on Tue, Feb 9, 2010 at 2:16 PM

The GOP has made some hi-larious internet cards for St. Valentine's Day:

I had this thought the other day about the Tebow commercial. I mean, in the end, it ended up being pretty innocuous and not-that-offensive, content-wise, but the attempts at making it funny (the tackle, the "I'm tougher than my football playing son"), were kind of pathetic. Whatever the cause, it was actually a pretty lame ad.

I don't get it. (Hmm. Maybe that was your point.)

The Rahm card and Reid card were actually pretty funny I have to say.

GOP = irony deficient.

A couple of them were mildly amusing. I'm impressed that most were spelled correctly and that they had enough taste not to do one from Teddy beyond the grave. (I bet it was debated.)

That's seems like the kind of joke he would make, so as an insult, that's a big fail.

I think a lot of those are surprisingly nuanced and funny coming from the "1/2 Hour News Hour" side of the political spectrum. I like the Rahm and Party Crasher cards the best. The Specter one only reminds me of Mark Sanford.

I don't get it (no idea who that dude is) but I still laughed, because it's so stupid looking. YEAH, YOU HEARD ME, CARD. STUUUUPID.

Sorry, but seriously... I hope these become a big hit out of pure irony. Bad Photoshop + Politics + Ugly disclaimer = win?

These cards are so hilarious I'm going to vote Republican in every race from now on.

Actually the Party Crasher one is fairly amusing to me. Might just be my mood or I might just be impressed by the simplicity. Still, I'm surprised -- I haven't laughed at anything Republican related since that joke about Sarah Palin's vagina.

I have quietly corrected that and am going to pretend it never happened.

Never mind the Dems. Valentine's Day totally needs Governor Hiking-The-Old-Appalachian-Trail Mark Sanford!

Seriously guys, help me out here.

Only looked at about a half dozen of them--none made any sense or were even remotely funny (I'll admit not knowing who most of the pictures are of.)

@18: It refers to a tiff between Franken and McCain during a senate session in which Franken was leading the meeting. Franken objected to something McCain said or did, but wanted to make it clear that he was objecting as Senator from Minnesota, not as the chair of the meeting (where an objection would indicate that he was accusing McCain of a violation of parlipro). I don't remember the exact details, and I'm not going to look it up, but that should give you enough to go on if you want to.

@ 20. Actually:

In a fun bit of drama on the Senate floor today, Sen. Al Franken cut off Sen. Joe Lieberman during a speech, angering Lieberman's good friend Sen. John McCain.

Here's what happened; Lieberman was giving a ten-minute speech on health care reform. Franken, who was presiding over the Senate, cut him off when his ten minutes were up. When Lieberman requested unanimous consent for an extra few minutes to finish his speech, Franken, in his capacity as a senator from Minnesota, objected. And, in his capacity as presiding officer, Franken honored the objection.

After a brief moment of tension, Lieberman laughed and said he didn't take it personally, and requested that the rest of his speech be put in the record.

Then McCain took the floor to defend his friend, saying he'd never seen anything like it.

It should be added that Franken supports the provisions Lieberman was talking about. Making this whole thing extra pointless.

@20,

So Franken, as a junior Senator, already knows a great deal about Senate procedure and the Republicans are *trying* to make fun of him for it. Why doesn't that surprise me?

Rarely do they have a sense of humor, and always are they in desperate need of getting laid.

Hey, what a perfect convergence of these two inadequacies!

Does anyone else think the hearts in the background look like a cock and balls and some jizz flying out? No, seriously?
