Currently Hanging: Honore Daumier

Posted by on Tue, Feb 9, 2010 at 9:25 AM

*Or this will be hanging this weekend at the Seattle Print Fair at Davidson Galleries.

This one's for Charles. Some people are city people, some people are country people. City people and country people have very different feelings about trains. They also, presumably, have very different feelings about Daumier.

I grew up in the country. The anti-country sentiment shared by some people on Slog is insulting.

Some context: it was widely believed, when trains first became common, that traveling at such recklessly high speeds (as much as 30 MPH!) was dangerous to the health, even fatal; your brains would be scrambled, your blood flow away, your eyes fall out of your head, your uterus prolapse.
