Brush with Stardom

Posted by on Tue, Feb 9, 2010 at 7:27 PM

They are filming some sort of movie scene in the hearse driveway on the North end of the Bonney Watson funeral home on Broadway right now. I'm guessing it's some sort of zombie porno with a really high budget, because there are, like, five trailers and a bunch of trucks, and the trailers just say "Servicing the Film Industry" on the side and nothing else. One of them had an open door, so I peered inside and saw wardrobe fodder ranging from women's fur coats to slutty-looking dresses to I can't remember anything after the slutty dresses. The filming area was pretty well blocked off, and my poor vision did not afford me any celebrity sightings, but I did hear one man, who looked like the movie equivalent of a rodie (What do you call those guys?) say to some non-celebrity looking woman "You wanna ride back to base?" Go see for yourself what I'm talking about.

Fir coats are great, but you need to keep watering them or they'll die.

Haha. Baconcat got in there first. I was going to say that I've always wanted one, but the needles make me itch.

When I saw the "Brush With Stardom" title, I thought it was going to be more about the old-gay-toothbrush-toilet guy--like maybe he turns out to be somebody famous or something. This is OK, though, with slutty dresses an' all. Keep investigating, Grant.

Why is every neighborhood completely in the dark about the Korean film Late Autumn?

It shoots in Ballard, gets coverage, then shoots in Fremont and people in Fremont are all "what's this?!". It shoots in Fremont, gets coverage, then shoots downtown and people there are all "what's this?!" It shoots downtown, gets coverage, then shoots in cap hil and people are all "what's this, a zombie movie?!".

Do they not post film permits in Seattle? Here in NYC they have permits posted on the street signs and also other paperwork that has to be posted in the windshield of the vehicles, so you can always tell what's being filmed.

By the way, the film equivalent of a roadie is either a PA (young and fresh-faced and looks either excited to be there or very disdainful) or teamsters (older and look like they're glad they got into golden time so they're not going to move any faster).

Well, considering "Late Autumn" has been on-and-off their production calender for the past several months, it's not surprising people wouldn't realize it's been the same movie shooting all this time.

@8:

I would think the film equivalent of a roadie would be a grip. PA's are more like slightly glorified gofers, and in any case, unlike grips (or roadies) they're not allowed to touch equipment.

And a Teamster is always a Teamster, regardless of the medium...

ROAG 11
Aren't news/blog/slog writers supposed to ask questions? If it's not worth asking someone about the film being made, is it worth slogging about? If you were too baked, just tell us. We understand.

Whatever you do, don't check Variety or the other rags for a listing of what's shooting where.

I ran by there in the morning like around 6:30. . . and was wondering what they were filming.

You should do a bit like this every now and then. Find people doing some mystery activity, and do your best to explain what they're up to without asking them anything.

And let commenters knife each other in a rush to say what's REALLY going on.

Actually @17 quite a few local actors have been hired for supporting roles & background, not to mention almost all the crew & production staff is local as well. That's part of the deal the producers had to agree to in order to get funding through the Washington Film Works incentive program.

But, hey, nice try with the knee-jerk ranting, based on completely erroneous, unfounded opinion posing as fact!

yes, they are using some local actors in small parts/background and interestingly enough, it looks like this is an English language film with Korean leads and director.

yeah I'm with ya! If they can't hire all local then fuck em!

17 & 21 are the idiots. HUGE payroll to local folks. I had to prove my Washington State residency on paperwork they require for Washington State Film Works. No one here heard of ImDb Internet Movie Database?
