The "Richard Large" of the Middle East

Posted by on Mon, Feb 8, 2010 at 12:43 PM

Reports HuffPo:

According to reports, a well respected, high ranking Pakistani official has been rejected as ambassador to Saudi Arabia because his name, Akbar Zib, translates as 'biggest dick' in Arabic.

Yes, that's really what it translates as. Neal Ungerleider over at True/Slant helpfully tells us that Akbar is a common Muslim name that translates to "the greatest", and Zeb is a relatively common Urdu name, whose meaning in Arabic is a crude word for male genitals. ...

According to Foreign Policy's Passport blog, Zib had previously been rejected from posts in United Arab Emirates and Bahrain for similar reasons.

Thanks to Slog tipper Damon, who isn't threatened by another man's akbar zib.

I love that this guy just keeps tryin'. He could change his last name to Bushnell or something, rewrite his history, but no: Zib's gotta be Zib.

That is the greatest thing I've ever seen. And yes, that is an accurate translation. Wow.

But what country wouldn't wan't to conduct relations through an Akbar Zib? Pakistan could threaten to withdraw its Akbar Zib if things with Saudia Arabia go sour.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are two sides of the same America-hating coin.

And two of our allies that do us more harm than good.

Part way through my time in 5th Group, a unit whose exclusive area of responsibility is the Middle East, we had assigned to our company a private Zoobie. Translation: My dick.

And yet our former VP, whose name sounds like something out of a BDSM dungeon, not only "won" office but continues to influence government policy to the fluttering heartstrings of conservatards everywhere. Got it.

This guy is the Pakistani Dick Butkus. Although Mr. Butkus uses a variant of his name. At what point did Richard Butkus decide it would be better to go by Dick?

Ha ha ha, that akbar zib is a pain in my zoobie.

I can't wait to pass this on even if I can't use it myself.
