The Latest Murray Challenger

It's state senator Don Benton (R-Vancoucer), according to the Seattle Times.

He said Sunday he was inspired in part by Republican Sen. Scott Brown's upset victory in Massachusetts, and he's retained the same consulting team behind Brown's candidacy.

Interesting. But Murray's no Martha Coakley—she's a three-term incumbent senator with more than $5 million to use in mowing down Benton and the clown car of other challengers who have signed up to try to unseat her. Crammed into that car:

Chris Widener, a motivational writer and speaker from Preston; Sean Salazar, a Mountlake Terrace chiropractor; Clint Didier, a former tight end for the Washington Redskins and the Green Bay Packers from Pasco; Craig Williams, an energy trader and Realtor from Vancouver; Arthur Coday Jr., a physician from Shoreline; and Rod Rieger, owner of a security-systems company in Marysville.

Alert Slog readers may remember in particular Sean "Soporific for the People" Salazar, whose bold choice of campaign commercial music was reviewed somewhat favorably by The Stranger's Dave Segal back in January.

Let's play it again, shall we?

I've heard of Chris and Craig.

Still going to be an uphill battle, what with the MJ initiative on the fall ballot, the tea party mucking around in the GOP Party of No primary, and the massive warchest on the Dem side.

If Dino Rossi runs, there might actually be a real race. None of the rest of them stand a chance.

So go ahead, Don, hire all the consultants you want.

Benton is one of the more nauseating blowhards on the local Republican stage. Expect some truly stupid pronouncements over the next few months.
