A Preview of the 2012 Presidential Race

Posted by on Mon, Feb 8, 2010 at 10:28 AM

On Saturday, Sarah Palin delivered (as Andrew Sullivan and others have pointed out) what is essentially the first speech in her candidacy for president in 2012. It was proud, screechy, condescending, cliche-encrusted, confusing, mawkish, disdainful of facts, certain of itself—all the Palin hallmarks. You should watch it.

Then you should watch this. Hahahaha.

I'm just immature enough to find the "gaylord opryland" sign funny.

I'm telling you that this bitch scares me.

If there was a presidential election right now I think she would win it - and that pretty much terrifies me.

I thought Andrew Sullivan's summary was on point.

I will vote for her in the primary. I think it will be funny and I truly believe she is unelectable. I very well might be wrong but if she wins in the general election I will be an ex-pat faster than you can say "Real Americans."

I would have watched it, but I was busy writing down speech notes for the next Tea Party Convention on my arms.

Could you show it again, but do it in her native Russian?

I, too, think she's unelectable. I can't vote for her in the primary (I'm a registered Democrat), but would if I could.

My guess is that she'll be running as a third-party candidate, though, in which case so much the better.

Does anyone really think she will beat Obama in 2012? She doesn't have a chance in Hell. Even most conservatives think she's an idiot.

I really hope she runs on the Teabag ticket rather than the GOP ticket.

7ftw

she soaks up a lot of the Looney Left's (admittedly minimum) attention.
she keeps their venom directed in a harmless direction while the eventual GOP nominee cruises along under the radar screen.
you won't see what hit you until you are already on the ground.

Oh, pleasepleaseplease let her run as the Tea Party candidate. It will be an easy way to figure out who all the idiots are in my life. "Hey bud, voting Palin?" "Yup" "Well, I see no point in continuing this conversation as I now know you are devoid of intellectual thought"

@3 Don't do it! I voted for her in the primary of the gubernatorial election because I thought Tony Knowles could beat her. And I was wrong.

Where is a Democrat to slam this idiot? She should not be allowed to spout her bull without some response. And please dress her photo up in a clown suit with a big red nose for every appearance she makes.

She might seem like a dolt to us, but she doesn't seem like one to a shit ton of people - and that's what scares me. Check this out:

Honestly, I only made it 25 seconds before being consumed with rage. If she does run in '12, I'm going to start a grassroots movement for Palin-hatin' democrats to switch parties in order to smack her down in the primaries. I don't care if it weakens the Democrats' chances in the general. At this point, if I had to choose between a 100% chance of a moderate Republican being elected and a 50% chance of Palin beating Obama, I'd pick the moderate all the way. And I still like Obama, so it's nothing against him.

A Tea Party party would be brilliant. See, REAL Republicans aren't so bad, it's just that the party is dominated by religious nuts. McCain wouldn't have been bad if he hadn't sold his soul to the religious right. Corral them all into their own party, and they won't hold back on the self-righteous, delusional crazy. Maybe some sane conservatives will open their eyes.

It would be nice to get back to Federalist vs Anti-Federalist principles. I'd love to have the luxury of actually looking at the issues before deciding whom to vote for. Right now, every election feels like "person who might conceivably put forward 20% of the changes I'd like to see, and can't promise to do more because they won't get elected" vs. "imaginary-friend-having sycophant who will put forward 100% of the changes I don't want, will steal my uterus and waterboard it in Guantanimo Bay, nuke Australia at the first hint of oil reserves, and put all my gay friends into concentration camps." Hyperbole, yes, but that's how it feels.
