Pot: The Lowest Law Enforcement Priority!

On Sunday just before 3:00 a.m., according to a Seattle police report, officers responded to an alleged robbery call at 20th Avenue and S Nye Street in the Judkins Park neighborhood. Upon arriving, police encountered "visibly intoxicated" man who said he was robbed whle trying to buy marijuana. According to the police report:

[The victim] said that he was outside the Cowgirls Club in Pioneer Square when he was approached by 5 [men] who asked him if he wanted to buy some "weed." [The victim] wanted to buy some marijuana but needed to get money from the ATM. [The victim] said he got into the suspects white 4-door Chevy Blazer where the suspects transported him to a Bank Of America ATM somewhere on 1st Hill where [the victim] withdrew $300 from the ATM. [The victim] gave the suspects $300 for the weed but they failed to give it to him. At 20th Ave and S Nye St the suspects pulled to the side of the road and told [the victim] to get out of the vehicle. [The victim] refused to get out of the vehicle until he got the Marijuana that he paid for.

The victim said that he left the vehicle after one suspect pulled a gun on him, according to the report. Police checked the area for the vehicle but could not locate it, so they gave the victim a ride to 12th and Jefferson, where he caught a cab home.

What strikes me as interesting: Marijuana possession such a negligible "crime" now in Seattle that police will look for robbers and help the drunk pothead get home safely. Good for them. Also, you'd have to be pretty drunk to think you need $300 worth of pot when coming home from the bar.

This is one of the oldest scams in the book. It's been perpetuated by the fact that the victim will almost never call the cops. Hopefully, that will change now.

Why $300.00 - honey, it keeps well. Non perishable, even if it is in the fridge.

Just how green are you for such a silly comment, and/or, you only buy by the small gram?

Ask Dan why you buy a bit more at a time if you can.

Only an idiot buys such a quantity from street dealers in Pioneer Square. What an easy mark.

#4 nothing wrong with buying an oz at a time, but when someone on the STREET claims to have an oz to sell you then they are straight fucking you.

Especially if there's five of them, and they then suggest you get in their car.

As grandpa used to say, a fool and his money were lucky enough to get together in the first place.

PS the cops are always gonna look for those who rob with pistols, so I wouldn't take that as a whole hearted policy stance re marijuana legalization on the part of SPD.

If I offer you PCP, heroin, coke, adrenal glands or just plain old ibogaine and then rob ya with a pistol, I'm a higher cop priority than your potential possession beef.

WOO HOO!

Sorry, I just love seeing the police allocating resources responsibly. They have tough jobs, after all, but it warms my heart.

This isn't anything new. There are plently of people charged with robbery every year who are robbing the victim for pot. There's actually case law that says it doesn't matter that the property at issue in the robbery is illegal to possess.

@4: Not so much that he was buying $300 at a time - I do know there is value in buying weed in bulk - it's just not exactly impulse buy material.

Actually, for some of us, all of our connections happen to be out right now. My guy's been out for 4 days, which is unheard of. Mayhaps this guy was trying to solve that problem. Desperation makes you do some stupid shit.

Nothing new here, in either police priorities or behavior of fools in Pioneer Square.

This fool was going to be robbed anyway, the weed is incidental to the story.

He gets out of Cowgirls Inc in Pioneer Square, presumably wasted, looking to spend $300 on some drugs? I have doubts that it was pot he was after.
