In Advance of the Super Bowl

...it's only fair that I direct you to this week's installment of Wm.TM Steven Humphrey's I Love TV:

What infuriates me the most about the Super Bowl is that all the other networks simply give up and refuse to offer any entertaining counter programming. Hey, other networks! What about the other .00001 percent of us who hate the Super Bowl? Don't we get any choices? That's why I've decided to skip TV entirely this coming Sunday and go on a crime spree.

Read the whole thing here.

Personally, I think Puppy Bowl Parties are in order.

I used to love reading I Love TV, but after moving away you guys made it impossible to find the fake TV Guide listings which usually were funnier than the column. (I know, I know, the Portland Mercury site includes those, but damnit, there's no good reason why The Stranger can't include them too.)

A good friend of mine organizes a movie outing every year on Super Bowl Sunday - a marathon of movies (usually the Oscar ones that people haven't seen yet). I usually go to 1-2 movies and then head over to the Super Bowl party. It's a pretty good alternative if you hate football. And parties.

the I <3 TV column is one I'm guaranteed to skip, mostly because I think 99% of broadcast television is crap...but this caught my eye and made me laugh, well done

I was going to mention Puppy Bowl.

Actually, the first two years of Puppy Bowl were the best. Now they've 'meddled' with the formula.

Just watching the puppies without commentary was not only great in and of itself, but that first year the whole show was a 'wtf moment'. The idea of just having content without comment for hours on end on the TV was so refreshing because it was unusual in its rarity.

Now there is too much chatter and 'staging'.

Still, I'll probably watch the pups (and the kitty halftime show) and root for the Saints at the same time.

I can't tell you how surprised I was when I heard that Jim Mora was coaching the Seahawks, he was the coach of the 'Aints, er, I mean, the Saints, when I was living in NOLA. Now that he's been replaced, maybe the Seahawks will improve.

The Saints in the Superbowl was always seen as much as a long shot as the Cubs making it to, and winning the World Series.

Anyway, if the Saints can make it to the Superbowl, then maybe the time has at last come around for the Cubs? One can hope.

The Sci Fi channel (I refuse to use their new spelling, because that's pronounced "Siffy") is running a Ghost Hunters marathon all day on Sunday.

Yeah, I know.... I know......

Shows how much attention I pay - I thought the superbowl was last month. Wasn't that the game everyone got so excited about New Orleans or something winning?

There's always masturbation, but more often than not I take advantage of the day to go places that are usually just too damn crowded.

There's too much ego in the Puppy Bowl these days. . No more team players.

Oh, Wm (tm) Steven Hump-me, I'll be fantasizing about you in women's underwear scootching your honey-baked ham all over the Victoria's Secret carpet for years to come.

Sigh.

I don't know about this time around, but the last few years I have had the pleasure of spending the afternoon at a matinee with a long running time- Inland Empire a few years ago, and Che (the 4 hour roadshow edition!) most recently.
