Visual Art Currently Hanging: Frank Stella

Somehow this new show escaped our print-edition listings, but I don't want to let it go here. Today is opening day for Big Is Better (Or Some Claim): Big, flashy 1960s/70s/80s paintings at the Wright Exhibition Space, culled from the stellar Wright collection.

This 1973 Stella, Brzozdowce II, is what I can't wait to see. (This and a blue-and-chrome Judd stack.)

Note: The space has weird hours. 10-2 Thursdays and Fridays only.

Frank Stella is arguably one of the most overrated artists of the 20th century. Judd is a master, however.

Wow, those hours sure aren't friendly to art enthusiasts with 9-5 jobs. I'd love to see that show but I don't think it's gonna happen.

I'll admit to not knowing anything about this guy's art, but it looks like something that could have decorated a mall food court in the 80's.

I think Stella's rated appropriately, and that rating is significantly below Judd's. I'm not seeing any huge museum or publishing fuss made over anything beyond Stella's early canvases, and his endless late baroque phase has at least never been boring.
