Depressing Fact of the Morning

Posted by on Wed, Feb 3, 2010 at 10:22 AM

From the BBC:

World Health Organisation Assistant Director-General Catherine Le Gals-Camus points out more people die from suicide around the world than from all homicides and wars combined.

Welcome to the day!

depressing ... perhaps. but the experience and end of suffering is much more beautiful than violence in my humble opinion.

what's depressing is that suicide, war, etc, ain't got nothing on diet:
The beef industry has contributed to more American deaths than all the wars of this century, all natural disasters, and all automobile accidents combined. If beef is your idea of “real food for real people,” you’d better live real close to a real good hospital.

It'd be ironic if she were related to Albert Camus.

Well that does it. We need to ban suicide right away.

See, the market is self-correcting! Laissez faire humanity.

@2 In what way would that be ironic?

@1, don't forget the poultry industry causes massive pecking murder-suicides. If you factor in the deaths caused whenever ducks and calves drive drunk together, really, why pay attention to anything else?

Heck, more people die from suicide, or car crashes, or swimming - than die from terrorism, but you pervs still have to see our undressed forms on your screens.

Baaaaaa.

Since I am the only person I am morally entitled to kill; this is no tragedy.

I mourn those who's lives are taken against their will. To those who choose to die- I respect your right to choose that.

However it simply doesn't ring true. A claim like this needs to be fact-checked.

I'm not feeling this statistic. Sorry BBC!

Depressing and timely. A girl in my neighbourhood quietly left her house Tuesday night and drowned herself in Ross Bay, five minutes from where I live. They found her body last night.

Yeah, murder would be worse, but it's still a tragedy. So, so sad.

Probably not a few suicides are the direct result of various wars, past and present...

Is there more suicides or is there less violence?

I'd rather see someone exit from life by choice than be forced out.
