Portland Native and Film Editor for Errol Morris Killed in Manhattan by a Getaway Car for a Stupid Drugstore Robbery

Posted by on Mon, Feb 1, 2010 at 8:14 AM

The Oregonian:

This weekend, friends and family gathered in cities across the country to mourn their loss. The 39-year-old [Karen Schmeer] was struck Friday night by a getaway car in a Manhattan drugstore robbery.

The driver of the car was arrested on a murder charge shortly after the crash. Police are still looking for a passenger who fled from the car as well as a third suspect connected with the theft of over-the-counter medication.

Those close to Schmeer said she always found time to nurture friendships despite her hectic schedule. The documentary film editor worked on many projects with director Errol Morris, including the Academy Award-winning "The Fog of War" about former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara.

Money is the true evil in this world.

The kind of doofyness that would exploit a tragedy to further one's support for marxism is one of the true evils in this world.

Money isn't the problem, it's thieves who steal stuff and run over people while getting away. Like the Bush Administration.

Why is money the big evil if the driver was stealing drugs?
And why smear a huge trite message over this lady's death?

The problem is that it was a "lady" that was killed, so Charles has a hard time seeing this as a human tragedy, instead it is an economic tragedy.

@5 in our world, the world of the world market, all tragedies are at root economic.

As for ian smith, if only you had done in 1969 what you did in 1979, none of this mess would be here with us today. take some fucking responsibility.

as for my father, his focus was in industrial development and not banking or finance (my father very much admired and wanted to continue ian smith's industrial policies). and, yes, he wrote a speech two for a man who was at the time democratically elected.

Yeah, I'm sure if we didn't have money people wouldn't kill each other or become innocent victims. PEOPLE are the true evil, Mudede. People. There will never be true justice; there will never be a truly benevolent society. Human beings are inherently greedy and violent.
