Nerd Shopping Alert

Posted by on Thu, Jan 21, 2010 at 11:23 AM

If you play PC or Xbox 360 games—and you aren't ethically opposed to shopping at Amazon (we do like the Amazon, but there are other good local options)—check out their "Gold Box" deals today:

Left 4 Dead 2 is $35 on the 360, $28 on the PC (although it is still too hard), and Assassin's Creed II for the 360 is currently $39 on a "Lightning Deal"—set to end at noon PST, with six more timed video-game deals on the way, which you can click on for clues. (And sorry, you already missed out on Fallout 3 for $28).

This has been your nerd shopping alert. In other breaking nerd news, Wizards of the Coast just released some fairly charming D&D propaganda in the form of three video shorts. You will find proof that D&D players can have cute girlfriends at 2:43.

(And in fairness to L4D2, playing with Realism on Easy is a decent compromise. But it's still no L4D1.)

The Stranger Testing Department is Rob Lightner and Paul Hughes.

D&D players can also have cute boyfriends. I'll show you mine if you want proof.

Ethically opposed to shopping at Amazon? I am all for keeping local providers of books and games in business but altruism is never going to do that. Either their business model gets reworked to something successful or they die. It is as easy as that and shopping at a more expensive store for no reason is just simply not going to keep them afloat.

I love Pink Gorilla, but you can't get new PC or 360 games there. It's fantastic if you're looking for old stuff or Japanese imports though.

Dragon Age is the deal til 2 if anyone's interested. Not my most favorite recent release, but hey, gay elf sex.

Originally, Pink Gorilla née Godzilla only carried Japanese systems and games, but they added Xbox 360 when the PS3 didn't launch well (PS3 is doing fine now so don't start the hating). It's a small store so the Xbox selection is limited to the better games. You shouldn't waste your time on bad games anyway. Never been to the U-District store; I assume their selection is similar.

If downtown is closer to you, then I recommend the Pacific Place GameStop. The Westlake Center GameStop has an aloof dick management style, but the Pacific Place store is sweetness and light.

It's so so so much harder. There are two campaigns I haven't been able to finish on normal, and I almost cried on the bridge before giving up and switching to Easy...

Dragon Age though... <3.
