Brilliant French AIDS-Prevention Ad

Posted by on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 8:55 AM

Says Copyranter...

The spot, via TBWA in Paris, is for France’s AIDES Foundation. It’s irresponsible because: 1.) it’s promoting random underground Metro bathroom sex; 2.) the silly animation belittles the sacred act of fucking; and, 3.) the penis does it with all those orifices while wearing the same condom. There. That’s the best I can do. Actually, it’s a fun video that effectively delivers a simple message. You really want to see some terrible AIDS awareness ads, here you go. Btw, TBWA Paris also produced one of the best AIDS print campaigns I’ve seen.

One question: do public women's toilets typically have that kind of graffiti in them? I thought disembodied genitals were particular to men's public toilets.

Nah, women's restrooms have more "informative" graffiti rather than artistic. Stuff like "I love Sammy" or "I hate that bitch Candy" or quotes from Ani diFranco. I never see disembodied genitals... though it is kind of hard to tell if that squiggle is a vulva or not...

My favorite aspect is that the women's genitals all look different, suggesting they were drawn by someone who has seen more than one naked woman in real life.

Plenty of peni on the walls of women's bathrooms, especially at colleges and universities. The most graphic and gargantuan I've seen were in the bathroom stalls of the animal sciences buildings at the ag college I went to. Although who knows, those might have been scratched into the paint by the janitor.

I've never been in a women's restroom that had any graffiti at all, but then, I haven't been in a whole helluva lot of them.

Izn't zis 'ommercial French?

I imagine women's toilets to have more diversified stall art in Europe for some reason. No to bullshit eco-love poetry yes to ladies drawing their labia while peeing. Just a little dream I dream.

This is a great PSA. Why are we so uptight when it comes to our PSAs?

Yeah, it's usually written graffiti per @1.

This message hits the spot, so to speak. Funny and effective.

Perhaps there's more graphic graffiti in men's restrooms, but that French girl is cuuuute, and I'm much happier watching her draw a little eyeliner condom rather than some guy with a convenient Sharpie.

True that men's restrooms have more graphic graffiti, but that French girl is cuuuute, and I'd much rather watch her draw an eyeliner condom, opposed to some guy with a convenient Sharpie.

Not, that I have seen. The graffiti is usually in the written form.

The ad is cute.

I've seen some lady's rooms that resembled that stall, mostly at Bard College and I'm pretty sure most of the art was by one girl who was in my dorm freshman year.

None, here, maybe it's just something unique to france. They wouldn't done it had if young ladies couldn't have related to it, so.

Ah the gypsy jazz, the realistic attitude toward sex---yup, that's French.

I agree with all above; no drawings in women's rooms, but lots of graffiti about sex, my own fave being in my college library near the Philosophy books: "coito ergo sum."

Amen to that.

Only in schools and fast-food restaurants do you find much of any graffiti, and mostly written as noted above. This commercial could have worked in a men's bathroom if the guy with the pen had been there drawing more graffiti, as opposed to just "conveniently" having a Sharpie in his pocket.

But still, very clever!

It also struck me as a bad idea for the penis to only bring one condom to a graffiti orgy. But maybe eyeliner is that much better of a barrier over latex.

It is usually frivolous writing and not silly drawings. Sometimes when women write really contraversial shit on the stall doors, another person will respond, and then another person, and another, and soon we have a huge argument on the stall door. I love it when that happens. I read all of the silly arguments.

My experience of womens' toilets has been that public ones- in rest stops, in restaurants- have no graffiti, and those in schools have written graffiti of the type described in other comments, plus hearts.
