Anyone But Frank Chopp

Posted by on Mon, Jan 18, 2010 at 3:07 PM

Wait a minute, I've seen this image before:

AnyoneButChopp.png

It's a still from our Five Minutes With Frank Chopp interview, conducted back in November after I reported on discontent in the 43rd District with the house speaker's moderate ways.

Which is not to say that I know who created the new Anyone But Frank Chopp page on Facebook. I'm as curious as anyone else, and I just sent ABFC a message asking who's behind the project. I'll let you know if I hear anything back from the operator, who describes him/herself as a 34-year-old Democrat from Seattle.

The page declares:

It is now time to... replace Rep. Chopp with a progressive Democrat, one that will be able to forcefully represent our district without worrying about the duties as speaker. 2010 provides a rare opportunity to do this. As we have seen with the election of Mayor Mike McGinn, when we work together, we can topple the establishment, and ensure that our views are properly represented in Olympia.

As of 3 p.m. today there were only 26 friends for ABFC—not quite an establishment-toppling number. Yet.

He could also be hindered by the fact that he created hthe page as if he was a person. People have to add him as a friend and wait to be accepted. He should have made a group or fan page or whatever.

Frank Chopp is not a great Representative for the 43rd, but the notion that "anyone" is better than him is ridiculous.

I'm the last person that would do such a thing.

Which you'd know if you understood how things work.

As they say - what a waste of bandwidth.

Yet. Yet. Yet.

Yes, what the 43rd really needs most is to throw away fifteen years of coalition-building that led to a huge majority, and get some nitwit "progressive" in who can stamp her foot impotently while the Republicans destroy everything real Democrats have worked for.

I can't believe its taken this long. I have never understood how Chopp continues to represent Seattle, without even a hint of opposition. Is it his role as speaker that makes him an unassailable candidate?

Dan sometimes likes to joke that he's 34 - could this be the start of another faux campaign?

We can thank Frank for sticking his district for the cost overruns for the tunnel. And Hizzoner 2.0 can thank him for an issue to run on. How that represents the interests of the 43rd remains unclear.
