The Dangerous Chicken Bone

Posted by on Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 7:57 AM

The Oregonian:

A 45-year-old trucker from Los Angeles says he choked while eating chicken and passed out, allowing his southbound tractor-trailer rig to cross the Interstate 5 median and crash.... The rig came to rest on the opposite median shoulder with the trailer overturned. The trailer was loaded with tires.

The trucker survived. But a person in a catchy tune by Carole King was not so lucky:

And he Choked!
And he SAGGED!
And he SMOTHERED!
And he GAGGED!
And he let out a SCREAM!
And he let out a MOAN!
Then he cried
'Cause he died
From choking on a bone
On such an ordinary day

So happy to see a "Really Rosie" reference! That really took me back to my childhood days belting out the entire album.
I'm a star from afar off the golden coast
Beat that drum, make that toast
To Rosie the most!

I have deep-seated show tune issues.

While Carol King wrote the music, Maurice Sendak is responsible for the wonderfully disturbing lyrics.

A little bone, a bitty thing
no bigger than my pinky
he swallowed hot
from out that pot
in quicker than a winky.
