The Morning News: Two Dead in Northgate, One Dead in Amsterdam, and Roman Polanski Furious Because Someone Took a Picture of Him

Posted by on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 9:00 AM

Two Dead in Northgate: "Police said three suspects fled on foot and remain at large. They are all described as black males, in their late 20s to early 30s, wearing all-black clothing, and at least one of them was armed with a handgun, police said."

Three Shot in Everett: "Three people were shot at an Everett bar early this morning and police are looking for a suspect who might have fled in a Jaguar... The wounded were taken to Providence Medical Center in Everett with non-life-threatening injuries."

"I Am Not a Hero": The coolest lady ever, Miep Gies, who helped Anne Frank, her family, and some family friends hide in an annex behind a bookcase above a jam factory in Amsterdam during World War II, and visited them daily, and discovered and held onto Frank's diary after her death, died yesterday. She was 100.

Motorcycle Bomb: "A nuclear physics professor who publicly backed Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi in the disputed June presidential election was killed Tuesday when a bomb-rigged motorcycle blew up outside his home."

The Deputy and the 15-Year-Old: A King County Sheriff's deputy gets his day in court.

Nine Containers with Highly Explosive Material: "Officials shut down a North Carolina port and urged people to leave the area..."

Airbus Beats Boeing: "Airbus on Tuesday said it beat rival Boeing in aircraft production in 2009, maintaining its place as the world's largest planemaker."

Prop 8: The trial resumes today in California. (Here's what happened yesterday.)

This Just In: Roman Polanski is still a dick.

THANK GOD we have ez access to guns so that our brave

armed citizenry

is always ready, willing and able to stop these senseless murders at malls.

TOO BAD in Germany France Sweden etc. where they prevent the citizenry from being armed

they always have these senseless murders at malls.

#1: If guns were banned there would just be mass stabbings with steak knives at malls and bars and home invasions. Millions would be killed senselessly, like the trillions of steak knife mass murders that happen in England every day.

@1, this was a home invasion. Northgate is a neighborhood, not just a mall. Thanks for playing!

Curious to know whether the PETN was being imported or exported from the North Carolina port. I would hope somebody keeps track of this stuff, but seeing as we left tons of military explosives unguarded in our mad rush to find "WMD's" in Iraq, those hopes are not high.

Despite her self-modesty, Ms. Gies was absolutely a true hero in every sense of the word. Her passing makes the world a little darker. RIP.
