First off, fuck you for pulling Golden Girls off its "me getting ready for work" slot, Hallmark Channel—replacing those experienced and brilliant older women with the supple chastity of the Ingalls Wilder family. Except for the time they blew up the town, I HATE THOSE PEOPLE!
Secondly, and this was told to me by a friend while drinking, so I might be butchering this story, but... back in Ohio, her mother had gone to high school with a writer for the Golden Girls. He'd be valedictorian or class president or somesuchthing that they'd give you a mic for at their 20th HS reunion. He used the opportunity to come out to the class, AND WAS BOOED. So, fuck you too, some nameless high school class of some time in the 60's somewhere in Ohio.

Yeah, because if there's one thing that the people of NJ need to model their lives after is the ideological 'moral' superiority of Hollywood. Thank goodness they are able to think for themselves according to their neighborhoods, communities and states realities and not to the made up shallow world of Beverly Hills or WeHo.

Loveschild, I love that when the justification for same-sex marriage is boiled down to its simplest argument, and presented so clearly that any idiot should get it, all its opponents can do reflexively dismiss this as false morality and superficial ideology propagated by Hollywood, Manhattan, etc. But I guess resorting to this tired cliche is all you can do for lack of any honest, "moral" argument against love.

My girlfriend and I recently started watching Golden Girls re-runs and we are hopelessly hooked. This was a "gather round the TV with the family" show when I was growing up and I now realize that most of my sanity in matters like this come from the Golden Girls, not my parents (indirectly i guess for letting us watch it). And seriously, Bea Arthur is an American Treasure. RIP, Bea.

really, if you don't like The Golden Girls, there is something wrong with you...brilliant comedic actressess hitting it out of the ballpark in every episode with some damn fine dialogue.
Most of the plots are lame and hackneyed and the clothes are ridiculous, but the words and the acting are priceless.

@5 As a resident of NJ, let me just say fuck you. I wish I could make a passionate, well-written plea to your better nature, but you don't have one, and your opinions don't do much for mine. Bigots have been claiming the push for marriage equality distracts from the greater problems in this state. We who believe in full equality know the cultural and economic contributions that the LGBT community has made in NJ. Granting them full civil rights would only help this state and its neighborhoods and communities. I'm not gay, but my best friends are. I'll stand with them 'til this is passed. You're goin' down, LC. Not today, but it'll happen.
