In Chicago:

A Shorewood Catholic priest who parishioners described as a "very holy man" apparently tried to kill himself by jumping from the balcony of a shuttered downtown Joliet church Wednesday as Kane county investigators began looking into allegations he molested a 13-year-old boy, authorities said.

It's a kind of sick progress—better than the usual denial and cover-up.

And the Spokane Morning Star Boys Ranch (Catholic-run for "wayward children") will defend itself in court against abuse charges, instead of just dodging trial. But the ranch doesn't seem too confident about the outcome:

... attorneys discovered in November, too late to amend Putnam’s complaint, that the ranch has transferred the bulk of its assets, including $12 million in securities and property assessed at nearly $3.5 million, to the nonprofit Morning Star Foundation.

Since learning of the transfers, Kosnoff’s firm has filed a separate lawsuit under the state Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act alleging a “massive conspiracy to defraud the plaintiffs.”
