The Poochinski That Never Was

Posted by on Wed, Jan 6, 2010 at 1:18 PM

Many of you have probably seen this already, but for those who have not...

It's a trailer for a 1990 pilot that went nowhere. I'm amazed that it went nowhere. What separates this piece of cultural junk from others?

It was too early for Peter Boyle's reappearance. He needed more wrinkle and sag, which is why Everybody Loves Raymond came at the perfect time for him.

It seems sad that I have a theory about this at all, though.

I can tell, based solely on the narration (and narrator's voice), that that shit isn't real. It was probably a spoof skit of some kind.

It was too intellectually complex and nuanced for the 1990 audience. But Michael Bay has a remake treatment in development.

@2Callie,

How wrong you would be.

This shit was totally real. And totally shit. It also has the joy of being mentioned in an episode of Stargate SG-1 as a successfully show in their meta episode "Wormhole X-Treme"

I'm sincerely hoping it's real. The world seems like a much more innocent, magical place if it is.

According to the description on YouTube, the narration is from an ABC TV special about failed TV pilots. I thought that sounded funny too.

That dog needed to hump a few legs and crap in someone's shoe for it to be the highbrow comedy we're used to.

@11: What, the obligatory bite in the nuts wasn't enough for you?

Hahaha, this totally reminds me of the film The TV Set. There is totally an unnecessary fart in the final clip real for the show they produce.
