Last Minute New Year's Eve Drink Recommendation

A kir is white wine and cassis. A kir royal is champagne and cassis. Liberty is making kirsch royals—champagne and Heering Cherry Liqueur with a twist of lemon. (Kirsch is German for cherry.) They've been making 'em for me and I'm sure they'd be happy to make one for you. And they're absolutely fucking delicious. Have three or four.

And maybe this is what Tom Carr was so worried about? They're having a cockfight at Faire Gallery tonight—apparently a local porn zine for women is looking for local models. They're going to be a push-up and pie eating contest, a loin cloth contest, and a wet underwear contest. Sounds festive!

Oh, and ten years ago I was in a huge condo overlooking Seattle Center watching the fireworks with my boyfriend because a nice couple with a kid the same age as our son took me and my boyfriend up on a very public offer to babysit in exchange for a view of the fireworks. We're still friends with the couple, ten years later their son Lewis is one of DJ's best buddies, and we all eventually wound up living on the same block on Capitol Hill. Funny how that shit goes down, huh?

Now go have a kirsch royal—and happy new year, all.

I may just mosey on up there. If I see you, your next kirsch royale is on me.

How am I reading this 15 minutes BEFORE the posting time?

And those all sound like perfectly fine drinks, but I'm sticking with the Taittinger - champagne being my imbibement of preference on NYE.

A regular kir is a thousand times better than a kir royale (or kirsch royal).

This sweet post reminds me how I miss the frisee salad at the late Cassis, how glad I am there's no law making me ever try kirsch again, whatever happened to the lady porn mag Sweet Action, and how 15th Avenue has given me the creeps all my life even though obvs. very nice families live nearby.

Haunting recollections of 1999... reminds me that we were all tied up in knots about terrorism even before 9/11/01. I hope that the coming decade is more peaceful, and that we are able to take whatever does happen in stride without regressing into fear.

I am a wife in 2010. istnt that crazy? wow. hooray and yeah queers for the strides we will make in 2010. which is pretty easy to drunk type compared to 2009.

I'm sipping red wine all evening, and baked a really fine manicotti in one of my 1963 Frigidaire double wall ovens. I'm living better electrically.

Happy new year, Dan. If I weren't home watching a sleepy almost-one-year-old, I'd be on my way to Liberty to buy you another Kirsch Royale.

Since Fnarf dissed it, I know for a fact that a kirch royal and a kir royal are both better than a regular kir. When it comes to food and drink, always go opposite Fnarf's opinion.

Ten years ago I was home with a little girl who was happily in bed by 8 pm. Tonight, I was home with a 15 year old girl chatting online with her friends about how they were all stuck at home with their parents and would NEVER let this happen again. Ten years from now I hope to be alive and healthy, and delighted with how this coming decade turned out. Happy New Year, y'all!

Cheers.

Thanks to a friend around the corner not answering our knock the scene here came down to me and my new love (just past our ninety day warranty), tiki torches, staffs, chain whips (not at all kinky, just weapons) and new X-ist-less-mass gift swords under the full moon in the back yard, plus cheap sparkling wine and one surprisingly faithful pack of twenty year old firecrackers, followed by a post midnight viewing of The Land Of The Lost (TOS).

I'm with Matt in Denver on the kir/kir royale great debate. Thanks for the drink recommendation, Dan. Now I know what to do with that leftover kirsch bottle (tried mixing it with icing for this year's xmas cookies--tasted like cherry cough syrup).

oh yes; I remember now -
I was doing community service!

The Advocate (The national gay & lesbian newsmagazine) > December 19, 2000

Journalist Dan Savage avoided a possible six-year prison sentence by pleading guilty to voter fraud charges November 7. The charges stem from an incident last year, when Savage, a Washington State resident, infiltrated the presidential campaign of antigay GOP candidate Gary Bauer and then cast a ballot during the Iowa caucus. Savage, a columnist for Out magazine, wrote an article for the online magazine Salon recounting how he had faked his way into Bauer's office to protest his antigay platform. In the article he also said he had licked doorknobs, doormats and toilet seats at campaign headquarters, hoping to give Bauer a bout of the flu. After pleading guilty, Savage was sentenced to a year's probation, 50 hours of community service, and a $750 fine.

those were some good times.....

@15 Jealous much ASSHOLE? Couldn't come up with your own memory? Do you suffer from reading comprehension? Perhaps a refresher course in Math 101, AGAIN? If it gets really hard, try using your toes too. I shouldn't have to explain this, but remember to remove your socks first for better accuracy.

Ugh ... I still have a hangover from last night. Me, the boyfriend and several others got a limo for the night, and had reservations for several clubs around Vancouver. We went club hopping all night long, and oh-em-gee, it was tons of fun! There is a huge black spot in my memory from a little after midnight, to about 6am, when I showed up at my friends house in hopes of continuing to party. I loves being a twenty-something and have little to no responsibilities.

Reading the old article from 1999 I saw this:

"Ahmed Ressam, who had planned to check into a motel near the Space Needle driving a car containing a bag of explosives and a Casio watch. (That's the detonating device of choice of suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden)."

Damned if that isn't chilling in retrospect.
