It's Going To Be A Very Happy New Year for Gay Couples In New Hampshire

Posted by on Thu, Dec 31, 2009 at 8:52 AM

Congrats...

At 12:01 a.m. Friday morning same-sex partners can officially get married, and a handful of gay couples plan to do just that by exchanging vows right in front of the Statehouse in Concord as soon as the law takes effect. Same-sex spouses who got married in other states will join the celebration.

This news is a great start to my day. Here's to a fantastic 2010!

I like the detail that couples already registered as civil unions who are either too lazy, uninterested in the spotlight (as if that's possible! ha!) or busy will have their union automatically convert to marriage in 2011.

The march of progress and equality continues. God (the real God, not LC's false idol) is smiling upon these United States today.

If it were in Jersey me and mine would be there at 12:01. What a great way to start the new decade.

May the politics of compassion, justice, and equality define this new decade!

Congratulations to those getting married.

Congratulations to all the soon-to-be-marrieds! I was very proud of our state government when this passed :)

@5 i echo, nice.

predicttion: in 2013 my parents will publicly re-new their vows for their 50th Anniv. Ever since retiring, they've been on a cliché love kick (too much kink for me). It may be sooner, this year??!! Us children are so anxious for something really really important to happen involving our lives.

#3 I happen to be that "False Idol" of which you speak and my divine handbag is at this moment swirling around my Big Hair Wig building up a head of diva-divine steam to smite you for that comment. I'm not False, everything about this Heavenly Queen is real, well just about everything. Who is this creature Loveschild of whom you speak?

My blessing on New Hampshire couples, false or real blessing pick which one you want. Falsies are more expense as they don't sag over time. Take it from me.

A headsmack from you would be a divine blessing indeed, Sargon. Just make sure you do it hard enough for the visions to come.

Well, a good reason to toast the new year. May NYE 2010 be the year you all toast the first equal marriages with FABULOUS pics on the Capitol grounds!

I think Michael was talking about the American traditions of marriage.

And Allegedly (@11) never eats beef in so as not to force [his] religious beliefs on the Hindus, and he never eats pork or shellfish lest he force [his] religious beliefs on the Jews and Muslims.

As a former resident of NH, I absolutely have to cheer this. 20 years ago, my mother was one of the few lawyers in the state who would help same-sex couples draw up wills, adoptions, and other legal documents that got them closer to legal recognition, but this is far far better for everyone.
