Misogyny and a Leatherman

On December 21, a Nordstrom employee called the Seattle Police Department complaining that a man was harassing female customers in the store at Fifth Avenue and Pine Street, a police report says. The employee and a witness had observed the man approach female customers. Although they could not hear exactly what the man said, the women "were clearly offended by whatever the suspect was saying to them," the report continues. The pair eventually positioned themselves close enough to overhear the man "tell the woman that she was a 'fine looking bitch.'"

The employee and the woman then approached the suspect and asked him to leave. After the suspect indicated that he would go, he then turned around with a Leatherman tool "with the scissors already out" and attempted to stab one of the women in the face, but she blocked the attack.

As the tool-wielding man was leaving the store, he told both the employee and the woman that "he was going to put them underground into a fiery furnace with all the other women," the report says. He then "proceeded to pull out planted flowers from the pots near the entrance to the store." The report concludes by stating that the suspect was still at large.

Why does no one punch people like this when they are lucky enough to be close to them? Don't say Leatherman scissors, cause those things are on a weak pivot point and aren't going to penetrate flesh...

Hmm, that "you need to marry asian ladies" troll hasn't been around lately.

There were a number of plants pulled out of their pots by icon Grill this morning. It seemed a little odd.

Meh, Tim Leatherman is clearly the biggest tool of the bunch. Yes, even when you include Charlie Sheen.

Maybe should have made a greater effort to apprehend him.

Could have been this guy:

Shouldn't the security guard have been the one to confront the jerk? Or did Nordstrom's layoff their security when the economy went to crap?

ugh. I find the way some "men" feel they can engage with you however, whenever they please completely creepy. . .

no matter if I'm told "I should smile more," or "hey sweetheart / doll / etc." or if I ignore them and get called "a stuck-up bitch."

It doesn't even take a leatherman to trigger the heeb-ees.

@4:

Even a relatively wimpy cutting blade like a Leatherman scissors can do serious damage if it hits the right place - the report says he aimed for the woman's face. Would you want to risk losing an eye just for the brief satisfaction of - maybe - getting a punch in?

Making someone like that even more angry doesn't sound like a very smart move - who knows what else he might be packing.

10: I'd hate to judge before all the facts are in but it does appear this man may have exceeded his god given authority over women

@11, especially since the main weapon he's packing is a double helping of crazy. It's really not a good idea to fuck with crazy people. It can give them the strength of ten men. You never know if he's one of the ones who's going to keep coming after multiple taser shots, baton blows, even gunshots.

Hope they can use surveillance videos or something to get a good picture of him circulated. He sounds like a person who very, very definitely should not be on the loose.

Also: Can we get a news link or something? I took a few seconds to look around through Google, but couldn't find anything.

Where is the description or partial description of the guy?

@14 - Sorry, there is no link. It requires the tedious task of sifting through electronic copies of police reports, obtainable only at the corresponding SPD precincts--in this case, East. I read them so you don't have to!

@16 - Thank you for the reply. How scary - this guy is obviously a danger - the story (along with a description or picture of the suspect) should really be out there.

@15 - I am no longer at the office, so I do not have the police report handy. However, as I recall, there was no description of the suspect mentioned.

@17 - You're welcome. The report indicated that they had video of the incident, so I imagine that people are on alert. Furthermore, again, as I recall, the report stated that the police know of the suspect from previous issues.

This never would have happened at Frederick & Nelson. Everything could have been worked out over a Frango Sundae or perhaps something from the Continental Grill.

Indeed, @20. A liveried doorman might simply have taken the miscreant through the entrance on Pine near Sixth and treated him to a nice Schillerlaken from the in-house bakery counter. I'm sure that would have been that.

They need more than security down from Nordstroms to Macys, they need a fire house to clean out the entire neighborhood.

Now why doesn't this surprise me?

@14: It's funny that you feel the need to ask for a real news source: "I mean, is there somewhere other than the Stranger I can read about this?"

@23: Yet another really dumb comment.

I'm sure that the police report contains at least a vague description of this psycho. Perhaps The Stranger could do that Journalism thing and share it with us?

I've seen Nordstrom's security. It's actually like a goddamn command center. They have cameras posted up all over the Westlake area. Weird that they didn't get this guy...
