Will We Ever Leave Our Homes?

Posted by on Tue, Dec 29, 2009 at 5:30 PM

The first 3D TV station in the United States will launch in 2010. Sony expects stereoscopic 3D TV sets to account for half of its HDTV sales within three years.

In the future, we will all sit at home watching Baywatch on our 3D TV sets and weeping.

Weeping? Because of getting your eye poked out?

I can't wait to be able to read about people who can watch Dancing with tStars and America Idol in 3D and dream about how great their lives must be.

what about 3d porn? positions like doggy style would look good in 3d.

@6: Porn is waay ahead in full-body sensory experience with bodysuits, electro-stim, hell even the OhMiBod. Combine that with sexbots and... does anyone else see the decline of the human species?

As for 3D TV, no thanks. Not unless they can get rid of those glasses. Plus, how does this benefit people who don't have stereoscopic vision? I have a friend and a grandpa who both only have one eye. 3D doesn't work for them.

Also, is this something where if you don't sit in the exact, optimal position, you'll get that weird double-image effect with the glasses? Doesn't that limit where one can sit to watch tv?

Give it a couple more generations to see if it's not a fad. Personally, I'm not convinced.

3D hurts my eyes. I thought I was going to go blind during Avatar. And doubt that I'm the only one experiencing this pain. The first rule of selling products is that they must not inflict pain. Except for MS Windows.

Yeah, I gotta agree, I was really expecting that last sentence to end with the word "masturbating" rather than weeping. The only real limitation would be if filming in such a way so that it can be projected in 3D would be more expensive or not. If it is more expensive, that will hinder porn from going mostly 3D...for like a year.

The real killer for porn won't be 3-D, but high def. They are already finding that high def and big screens just highlight things like flaws in skin tone (zits and razor burn), sweat, and makeup. Studio lighting adds age, and high def spoils the illusion that everyone is gorgeous, nubile, and young.

Either people will have to radically rethink their standards of porn-beauty, or something's gotta give.

If it's any consolation, we're five years from watching 3-D TV on a Kindle, too.
