Posted by on Tue, Dec 29, 2009 at 4:58 PM

That cruel, barbaric elk hunt I posted about this morning? One of our readers took pictures of it:

If you do not want to be disturbed, then do not look at this disturbing picture. Photo credit goes to Catherine Anstett.

Them fellers sure is brave. Warriors even. Mighty hunters all, like our steely-eyed foreskinsfathers.

What kind of illiterate readership do you have? Oh, the kind that follows your smarmy books editor. I understand.

Concrete - hometown of Tobias Wolff - in my opinion the finest NW author.
Concrete - setting of his most famous book, very good. Pretty good movie too, with Dicaprio and DeNiro.

Toby Wolff's wikipedia offered the gem that his short story 'Bullet in the Brain' has been made into a filmshort starring Tom Noonan! What a great lit guy. Check his 'What Happened Was...' movie and his guest spot in 'Schynechode, NY.'

'Bullet in the Brain' as a story is wonderful, just how I picture your books editor meeting his unfortunate demise. No offense. It's all (no) good, in fiction. A Jewish friend of mine walking along 45th/12th Ave NE, by the old, the new, the old new "Eggplant" store, once expressed a great witticism in describing himself, "I put the fun in funeral."

I'm a bit of an environmentalist too. Three strikes and you're out, hunterkillers.

Non-vegetarians do not get to bitch about this. Seriously. Worse things are done daily to provide us with tasty meat snacks.
Think of hunting as the gay marriage of rednecks; You might not approve of it, but wading in with your "superior" morality is kind of obnoxious.

@4 Vegetarian here and this so-called hunt is disgusting, shameful, and should be illegal. The animals don't even have a chance. If they were truly in the wild they could run away, but they are fenced in. I would like to see these cowards corralled in a fence unarmed with a pack of hungry lions and see how long they last.

I hope the media attention on this "hunt" helps to get these barbaric activities outlawed. Unbelievable.

There was no "hunting" going on here, by any definition of the term. The shooters didn't hunt their prey, they just got out of their trucks and walked over and started shooting their arrows. Shooting fish in a barrel, as they saying goes.

No sportsmen need apply.

That's not a fucking hunt! That's a slaughter! And don't blame the bow hunters -- regardless of the weapon used, there would be a shitload of hunters pissed off about what is going on there.

its CULLING THE HERD. its why there's a herd. its why there's no wolves. they should give them a sporting chance, but that's not the human way except in the movies.

Cruel and inhumane.

That's not a hunt, that's a slaughter and those fat assholes should be embarrassed. But using this as an example to outlaw hunting is ridiculous.

Hunting: it's what guys without penises do to fill their time.

oh noes the liberal outrage! There are many things going on here, and much like people in the suburbs all think people who read the stranger are vegan hipster dip shits ( which they mostly are ) everyone commenting gets to call them fat drunken assholes. oh well. The biggest problem here is the animals aren't afraid of the people. Years of wandering around farms and "wildlife viewing areas" (btw one is adjacent to this field in the picture) where people from the big city can hand feed them carrots will do that. The dudes shooting are being stupid, and they know better, but much like a orphan bag of coke in the cha cha bathroom, some things are too hard to just walk on by... bad decisions by all.

They pretty much ruined it for everyone, as hunting season has been canceled. and I doubt this suburban area will be open for this sort of thing again.

@4, I'm vegetarian and think hunting is fine. That’s what humans do. I'd rather people hunted and cleaned and prepared their meat than buy some anonymous slab wrapped in cellophane.
But I agree with 10, this isn’t hunting.

This shows a serious lack of sporting talent and cunning on behalf of those gun boys. They can't call themselves hunters. Put another way, if you want to play baseball, it doesn't mean building a sand fort around the ball and calling that your action figure base of operations.
