Dan Savage Gets Useless Things in the Mail

Posted by on Wed, Dec 23, 2009 at 1:46 PM

If you are hunting for last-minute Christmas gifts, I urge you to not to buy this for anyone: Dan just gave me a Prez BaRock: Briefing Room Edition that he got in the mail sometime in November. Let's take a look, shall we?

As you can see, it is a pet rock in a cardboard oval office decorated with a sign that reads "Prez BaRock" above the rock, which is sitting at a desk. The paperwork that comes with this toy also reads:

You are one of less than 100 people we've selected to receive the very first Prez BaRock collectibles on the market...no random blast here. You have been hand selected as a voice of reason in a time of test, a person of influence in a period of perspective.

Translation: "You are special. We mailed you a rock." I could see the BaRock taking off last January, but the fact that this package was mailed in late October makes Prez BaRock even dumber. If you click on the image to the right, you'll get a close-up of the rock and some of the many stickers that come with it. The stickers are both positive "HOPE" and negative "TRICKLE-UP POVERTY," because the makers of Prez BaRock want to take money from folks on both sides of the aisle. Hopefully, nobody—Democrat or Republican—is just that dumb.

I urge you: Do not buy anyone Prez BaRock for a holiday gift. It is a dumb, useless thing.

Looking at the Prez Barock website took eleven points off my IQ.

Well, it HAS done just about as much for equality rights as the real thing...

Dan opens strange mailings? He's lucky it wasn't a bag of doody from some Bush fan.

Here in Hyde Park at the Obama Walgreens they are selling a BaRock that is a river rock with the likeness of the president spray painted on it.

Dan was dumb enough to support the Iraq war and Obama's campaign. Yeah, I think he's dumb enough to promote a rock.

Perfect analogy.

A thing which, outside of its context, has no redeeming value in and of itself.

Save it for next year's Strangercrombie. I'd bid on it.
