The new head of Seattle Public Utilities under Mayor-elect Mike McGinn will be Ray Hoffman, who has held the position as a caretaker under Mayor Greg Nickels. Five others who worked in the Nickels administration are being reappointed. The release from McGinn is after the jump.
Meanwhile, McGinn has appointed Candace Inagi to serve as the mayor's labor and community liaison.
Mayor-elect Mike McGinn today announced another round of cabinet and staff decisions. The City of Seattle is comprised of 27 departments, with each director generally selected by the Mayor, subject to council confirmation.Ray Hoffman will serve as director of Seattle Public Utilities.
“Ray is a strong manager and superb environmental steward,” said McGinn. “Seattle's drinking water, solid waste, drainage, and wastewater services are in good hands.”
Earlier this year Mayor Greg Nickels named Hoffman acting director of Seattle Public Utilities. His appointment as full director is subject to confirmation by the city council.
Holly Miller will continue as director of the Office of Education.
“Holly has unparalleled experience in education and government,” said McGinn. “We will work together to find ways to improve our public schools.”
Four other department directors have been retained in their current roles. Timothy Gallagher will continue as director of Parks and Recreation. Adrienne Quinn will continue as director of the Office of Housing. Michael Killoren will continue as director of the Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs. And Stephen Johnson will be re-appointed as acting director of the Department of Economic Development.
In addition to today’s cabinet decisions, McGinn made an additional staff announcement.
Candace Inagi will serve as labor and community liaison. She previously served as chief lobbyist for SEIU Healthcare 775NW, where she also worked to manage government and community affairs. Inagi also led the State Labor Council’s Labor-Neighbor political program in 2004.
