Does Mark seriously think this is gonna work? Guess it makes him feel better. Tons of people are probably calling him right now to fuck with him. Especially now that it's on Slog.

Netbooks with Chrome should cost $40 in 2010.

You can get two of them then for $100.

Why didn't Mark ever backup his personal photos and music?

you'd think with all the technology we have, with the attraction to steal what it is, that there would be some brilliant solution to this by now.

like, enter the wrong password on some laptop and it takes your picture and emails it to your main account with its GPS coordinates so you can go get in the thieving fucker's face yourself instead of posting useless bills all over town.

Those who don't regularly backup their computers are doomed to suffer the consequences...

@12,
Actually, some do... My brother is all technical (I'm a dumbass with computers) and his laptop is set so that whenever anyone attempts to bypass or modify any security systems, it shuts down completely or sends a message with coordinates or some such shit... it's kinda cool, he told me to try fucking with it to see what it does and he caught me.

I'd guess that most people just leave it to fate though.

@12: Yeah. It's called Undercover.

@14: You're right. After having my thesis notes (the one thing not backed up) lost when my laptop was stolen from underneath my seat at a Starbucks, I came up with a new backup routine. Won't happen again. And next time, if ever, my shit gets stolen like that, see previous ¶.

What the hell kind of office does he work in that his laptop is stolen? And no one saw it happen or said something? Maybe it's time for a new office.

Telling that Stranger bloggers first response was to blame the victim. You will see this again and again with anyone who has been wronged.
