Currently Hanging: By Christopher Ezzell, Matt Hutchins, Shahreyar Ataie

Posted by on Thu, Dec 17, 2009 at 10:43 AM

In the ongoing saga of what's going on with Pioneer Square (continue the conversation about the impact of Elliott Bay's move up the hill at Paul Constant's story here), let's consider the lowly alley.

To do just that, a local nonprofit called the International Sustainability Institute is hosting semi-monthly "alley parties." The most recent, during December's Artwalk, yielded this art installation—still up—by architects Christopher Ezzell and Matt Hutchins and filmmaker Shahreyar Ataie.

Why isn't this spinning?

Is it perhaps because.... oh my god... you can't vote in Nebraska???!!!!!

Perhaps "mr. ouch" can define the internet in more reasonable reprographical termination so as to reassure Senate Republican Ben Nelson of Nebraska the differances between playing fair and just pointing a sattelite microphone into someones hard line phone matrix and dialing in the walkie talkie zone on your voice recorder so as to manipulate the spelling directory of a pod cast.

oh ya.. and another thing... don't bother senator cantwell.

Did anybody say DIODE yet?!

Just looking at this from outside the alley, it looks pretty cool. I didn't realize it spelled a message as well. While I agree with the message I am not sure if this isn't a little heavy handed. I think you can discern the concept without the obviousness of the text. Still as I said, pretty cool.

This is pretty cool! It is in an alley in Pioneer Square - between Main and Jackson & 1st Avenue South and Occidental.

I dunno about this art thingie, but I couldn't agree more about alleys. Our alleys should be turned into hopping retail and restaurant zones, like the laneways of Melbourne. Clean up the piss, install windows instead of metal doors, and get some tables and chairs out. Seattle's streets are far, far too wide to create any kind of synergy with the other side. Alleys are perfect. Narrow is good, not bad.

If they do tear down the Viaduct, the worst mistake the city will ever make is leaving it a barren "park". They should pack it with little tiny building and little narrow streets. Make it like the North End of Boston or Seven Dials in London.
