In my ongoing, extremely spotty coverage of literary artifacts that seem incongruous with their owners' books and sold for ridiculous amounts of money:
Charles Dickens's toothpick went for $9,150 at auction, sold by the heirs of the Barnes & Noble fortune. It was engraved, retractable, and made of gold and ivory. (What Little Nell or poor Smike wouldn't have given for a gold toothpick... )
