The Morning News

Posted by on Fri, Dec 4, 2009 at 8:44 AM

Awfulness in Africa: Suicide bomber kills 19 at medical school graduation ceremony in Somalia.

Still Closed: The Parkland coffee shop where the Lakewood officers were ambushed.

Tangible Results of Tiger Woods Saga: Major internet traffic for the word "transgressions," major sales of physics book photographed on floor of Woods' wrecked car.

Today in Print Media: "Some editors at The Dallas Morning News have started reporting directly to executives outside the newsroom who oversee advertising sales, under a restructuring that overturns longstanding traditions in American newspapers aimed at shielding news judgments from business concerns."

Today in Meat: Scientists test vaccine to protect cows from E. Coli.

Today in Not-Meat: Morrissey and Stella McCartney team up to create line of vegan footwear.

Today in Peanut-Sized Menaces That Are Not Peanuts: "A man who dove face-first into an extremely venomous, peanut-sized jellyfish in the waters off northeast Australia was flown to a hospital intensive care unit..."

Eighteen months: Prison term for former Seattle Children's Theater employee caught with child pornography.

The Court Instructs the Defendant to Show Us Your Boobs: Florida judge demands to see all Girls Gone Wild footage related to the civil suit against founder Joe Francis.

I Really, Really Want to See This: Cate Blanchett knocking 'em dead in NYC as Blanche DuBois.

Finally, last night was the closing party/grand finale/wake for Broadway's Bailey/Coy Books. One of the night's handful of awesome performers was Sarah Rudinoff, who, with Rick Miller, sang this classic Stevie Nicks/Tom Petty duet, which is now stuck in my head perhaps forever.

An irukandji? Oh damn. He probably wishes he was dead. Just watching the Discovery Channel specials on those little fuckers makes me squirm and vow to never visit Australia.

Stevie Nicks is the most repellent human being who ever lived. I would rather lick irukandji jellyfish out of the ass-crack of a 1,000-pound man than watch that video.

OTOH, Sarah Rudinoff and Rick Miller are totally worth licking irukandji out of the ass-crack of a 1,000 pound man to hear.

Not that I WOULD, of course, but still...

@2,

Even more repellent than Mao? He's pretty high on my list. Stevie's just high.

And PS, Woods may be an adulterer, but he did go to Stanford, so the physics book is no surprise.

@2,

A 1,000-pound man with hemorrhoids?

5: No surprise over the book, just the sudden spike in sales. It's like he's the new Oprah.

Sarah Rudinoff could wipe the stage with Stevie Nicks' bony ass any day. Is Rick Miller the guy who owned Journey at the Soft-rock show? If so, hot damn.

Australia. The "island continent" that is going to kill us all. Sleep with one eye open Americans. Where can I buy a jellyfish-proof fence?
