The Found Footage Festival Was a Real Good Time

Posted by on Fri, Dec 4, 2009 at 1:45 PM

Last night, the Fourth Found Footage Festival sold out three shows at Central Cinema.

By the time the eleven o'clock show rolled around, the hosts, Joe and Nick, were kind of drunk—entertainingly drunk—and the show started over a half an hour late. But what a show it was. (From here on out, all links should be considered NSFW.) \

I had seen the training film for the the Venus 2 (a weird, suctioning male masturbation aid, and a larger, clunkier precursor of the Venus 2000) before, but the Found Footage guys actually brought a Venus 2 for the audience to appreciate. And one of the hosts—the one with the beard, who might be either Joe or Nick—admitted to trying the Venus 2 out. He recommended it to all the men in the audience. Later, lots of people posed for pictures with the Venus 2. Hopefully, they were too drunk to realize that this was probably the same model that the host had taken for a test drive.

There was also a slide show of several great VCR tape covers, including a handmade sticker labeled "Bonion Sergery" and the cover to the movie Jesus Christ Serial Rapist. Here is one of the sadder (and SFW) segments we saw last night:

If you want to watch more Found Footage clips, learn more about Found Footage Festival, or buy video compilations of the first three festivals (the fourth festival will be available in a couple of weeks), you should go to their website.

I wish I had know about it earlier. Mentions of it seemed to pop out of nowhere on Wednesday. I feel so out of it.

Hey, they're coming to Eugene on Sunday! I was planning on going anyways, but this sealed the deal...

I love CC but with that service I'm sort of wondering how it's even possible to get drunk there.

i give it a meh minus

the event (at least as of 11pm) was pretty poorly organized - not sure how people managed to get drunk at least in the upper section where service came by about as frequently as late night metro bus service.

i found the two hosts moderately annoying, and the footage to be moderately amusing. to be fair, i had really high expectations for the event, but on the whole i was underwhelmed and it was definitely not worth the wait outside in the cold.

if you don't bring a flask to CC you are going about drinking incorrectly. Don't get me wrong, I ordered beers and drank them, but its all about the drink supplementing....
Key to making FFF a success: pre-game drinking, pre-game weed smoking and going in expecting spotty drink service and you will have a great time.

I'm totally cool with events running a little late. But I turned into an old lady last night and asked for a refund. I saw Paul in the lobby, where it was nice and warm as he waited to get let in 30 minutes late. And I waited outside, and turned into that person I hate. I left and I'm sad I missed out but figured I wouldn't be getting a beer to warm my hands anytime soon. Plus, even though I have a micro crush on Paul, I was fucking cold so I left.

Paul, how did you miss the punning opportunity of a "Reel Good Time?"

They've got another edition of Scarecrow Video's Viva VHS celebration coming up in a couple of weeks there. That shit should be equally or even more fun.

Thanks for the kind words Paul, and my apologies for making people hate you because I let you inside (sorry -- the press can be special people sometimes). For everyone who came out to the show and had to wait in the cold... We suck! The FFF guys thought they could cram in three shows and still have some time between but they were wrong. Too many people, too little space. We should have just had the late show at midnight and it all would have been fine. But the Cinema won't make that mistake again next year! We're doing TWO nights of Found Footage Festival.

PS - Working on Everything is Terrible. Their stuff is awesome, too!
