Hello everyone! If you're a regular visitor to Slog, you're probably aware that Strangercrombie is The Stranger's annual holiday auction, wherein we gather up a big bunch of one-of-a-kind gifts then auction them off, with proceeds going directly to charity.

But what you cannot possibly comprehend is the extent of the awesomeness of this year's available gifts, every one of which is up for bidding RIGHT NOW on the glorious Strangercrombie Auction page.

For example: In Strangercrombie, you can buy the right to put whatever you want on the Stranger cover, buy invaluable hype for your favorite writer/artist/band/restaurant via made-to-order Stranger reviews (raves guaranteed!), or force Dan Savage to give you one-on-one sex advice in a wine bar. You can also buy the right to screen the film of your choice at Central Cinema, complete with free tickets for the winner and 20 friends and guaranteed pre-hype for the winning movie night (which will be open to the public, just like a regular movie) on Slog the Stranger Blog. Or maybe you're just looking to keep your wang warm.

Whatever the case, you'll find more delights than you can possibly imagine in the Strangercrombie 2009 Holiday Auction. Even better, by bidding on these gifts you'll be doing a tangible good for three exceedingly worthy local causes—Senior Services, Country Doctor, and Urban Rest Stop—who'll be sharing the proceeds of this year's gift auction.

Strangercrombie bidding continues until next Friday, December 11 at 5 pm. So get in there.

Strangercrombie: Once a year we do something good™.

So, if it's for a charity, does this mean if Microsoft millionaires buy a pack of Stranger cards they can deduct some of it on their income tax?

Not sure if matching works with anything besides cash donations.

Normally, if you purchase something through a charity auction you can only take a charitable deduction for the difference between the Estimated Retail Value of the item and what you paid for it, assuming of course that what you paid is MORE than the ERV. If you paid less than the ERV, then you can't write it off at all.

Hmm, hadn't thought of matching - just meant it's deductible.

So, if Microsoft matches, does that mean you get two decks of cards for the price of one? And who gets the second deck - HR?

But where can I find more pictures of that scrumptious young thang advertising Strangercrombie on the home page? Really, the most attractive guy you've used in recent memory (IMHO).

Was looking at the bids. Looks like its going to be a success and I couldn't be happier. The recipients of the proceeds are very, very worthy causes (among other worthy causes) and all those support services like Senior Services (et al.) are really hurting in this economy. Bravo, Stranger! Bravo, bidders!
