Robotic Hands Have Become a Reality

Posted by on Thu, Dec 3, 2009 at 7:59 AM

I first saw this hand in 1980...

...it appeared at the end of a galactic movie. What was first seen on the screen, Luke's robotic hand, is now (30 years later) a reality:
(BBC) A group of European scientists have successfully connected a robotic hand to an amputee, allowing him to feel sensations in the artificial limb, and control it by thought.
During a month of experiments, the patient made complex movements using only his brain. It is being heralded as a scientific breakthrough.
The next and final breakthrough?

We may need to run Melanie Griffith through a trash compactor to ensure that Cherry 2000 never comes to be a reality. I know it was just a movie, but you can never be too sure.

I feel bad for those poor Silver Spring Monkeys but if it was not for experimenting (torturing) them we would not have amazing scientific breakthroughs like this that improve human's lives. So was it all worth it if we can repair human limbs?

Whoa, wait a minute . . . I'd do Cherry in a heartbeat. So would Tiger Woods. Mudede too, probably.

We can't let robots have feelings, 5280.

I think we should run Meg Ryan through with her, just in case. I have a feeling she's a roboclone.

Oh, alright, but only if you run Adam Lambert through too.

I thought that we were already cyborgs or post-human, but this makes it more tangible.

Meh, Steve Austin had one of these back in 1973...

No Charles, this is the next breakthrough: http://www.philoscifi.com/wp-content/upl…

More human than human.
