Posted by on Wed, Dec 2, 2009 at 11:55 AM

We've been getting calls about this:

The Seattle Fire Department hasn't yet returned calls. Anyone near the fire?

UPDATE: Over at Seattlepi.com, Levi Pulkkinen reports: "Workers at a duel-fuel power plant at the University of Washington were transitioning from natural gas to oil Wednesday morning when a faulty switch caused the oil to spill, a university spokeswoman said."

Keep calm and carry on.

It must be because the New York Senate is debating same sex marriage right now. It already passed the State Assembly earlier today and Governor Patterson has stated he will sign it.

You can watch it live here:

I could see it from my office but I'm not sure if it's an apt building on fire or something behind it. Just east of Melrose..whatever it was its over now.

SEATTLE -- University of Washington officials say a cloud of black smoke over the Seattle campus was caused by a faulty power plant switch.

University spokesman Bob Roseth says the plant alternates between oil and natural gas. When the fuel was switched to oil on Wednesday morning, there was too much oil in the area of the burner and that caused a cloud of smoke to go up the chimney.

Roseth says the plant has been switched back over to natural gas, repairs are underway and no damage or injuries were caused by the problem.

I just had class in the building right next door to it. It is coming out of the campus power plant's smoke stack. I was a little scared walking into class, like uhhh, is this normal? Is it gonna explode?

UW generates power using oil? How ungreen (and expensive) is that? I say bring back the nuclear reactor.

@12 - we used that to make medical radioactive materials, actually.

Besides, you're not supposed to know about the fusion reactor ...
