The Other Auction for a Good Cause This Week

Posted by on Tue, Dec 1, 2009 at 2:37 PM

Tomorrow is the launch of Strangercrombie, our annual charity auction. We've been working hard behind the scenes to make sure that you'll have all kinds of holiday goodness to bid on this year. But you should also be aware that Bailey/Coy Books is having an auction at their closing party on Thursday, December 3rd. The proceeds will go to pay off the store's debt.

Michael Wells just sent a list of the items they're auctioning off, and there's some really good stuff, including:

Men's underwear signed by David Sedaris plus a signed copy of Naked; a Big Fucking Hands painting by Ellen Forney; a signed Annie Liebowitz poster; a collection of signed and unsigned promotional standees; signed first editions of The Hours, Fugitives and Refugees, A Boy's Own Story, The Naked Civil Servant, Bastard Out of Carolina*, and Sex Drugs, & Cocoa Puffs; illustrations by Lynda Barry and Matt Groening; a signed Chris Ware poster; a 9 to 5 poster signed by Dolly Parton and other cast members; an independent bookstore shopping spree; and a bunch of rare first editions and slipcased editions of books by Steinbeck, Fisher, Greene, and Sendak.

And, as they say, much more. Michael Wells really knows how to throw a party. Buy your tickets now.

* I don't promote this book enough. Seriously, I don't care who you are: Read Bastard Out of Carolina. It's an amazing novel.

I think it is a good thing for lingerie to be appearing in sports. It is certainly a good thing for the lingerie manufacturers and distributers, as sales are sure to increase. It also provides a good platform to showcase lingerie without going all smutty, which may also help to increase sales. Whether it is a good thing morally, or good for sport or society. I am not so sure about that one…
