Thinking about blond hair and its short but brilliant history...
Long, long ago, humans in what is now Northern Europe had a diet dominated by a grain that did not provide enough vitamin D. This resulted in the spread of the blond hair mutation because very light skin and anything that improved the lightening of skin was favored for the production of the important vitamin. As to why blond hair is often associated with youth (and therefore with beauty), that is another matter for
another time.
