Police No Longer Searching for Mazda

Posted by on Mon, Nov 30, 2009 at 2:59 PM

Police have dropped their hunt for a 1997 Mazda Millenia with Washington license plate 208-SSX. "WSP Trooper Brandy Kessler says it was sold 2 months ago," reports @KIRO7Seattle.

I heard a rumor that Clemmons is moving around the area on Pegasus the Flying Horse. I heard that everyone in the Puget Sound region has been killed. I heard Clemmons is Santa Claus, and has moved Christmas to January 11th. Whoa -- this just in: Lakewood cops actually murdered by badgers.

This does seem like a Keystone Cops investigation, doesn't it? Have police investigations always been like this? Or do we now expect every case to be a tidy 60-minute episode like CSI or Law & Order, especially with so many instant-update tools like Twitter?

Man, you guys are really getting in the trenches with this one. I have rarely seen aggregating of this calibur. That combined with taking dictation from the police scanner must be wearing y'all right the fuck out.

Those incredulous fucking hacks at the daily and tv stations should take a lesson from you on this one.

@3, the latter. The police don't have hardly anything to go on (that they're telling us about, at any rate), and the heightened awareness of the community, coupled with a high degree of paranoia and, dare I say it, stupidity amongst the populace -- a stupidity and paranoia that increases dramatically amongst habitual scanner-listeners -- they're being flooded with false leads. They're checking those leads out, because they have to. That's how it works.

I don't think they even know what county the guy is in, myself. Just because all the reports are in Seattle doesn't mean anything WHEN THEY ARE FALSE.

Eventually a tip will have something to it and they'll find the guy, just like happened with the Seattle cop killer. Until then, all this hysterical MANHUNT!!11! is just noise. Especially the Twitter stuff. The guys who actually know things are cops, not Twitterers, and they're kind of busy right now.
