Another Push for McGinn and Holmes, and Farewell to the War Room

Posted by on Sun, Nov 29, 2009 at 4:20 PM

You elected Mike McGinn the mayor and Pete Holmes the City Attorney—sometimes the good guys win—but their campaigns aren't out of the woods yet. They're both in the red. (Granted, McGinn only has a quarter of Joe Mallahan's $106,174 debt, according to records from the Seattle Ethics and Election Commission.) Take a shot of whiskey at a joint fundraiser tonight and bid farewell to the War Room.

Dom, any word on why it took the Stranger nearly 3 hours to report on the police officers' murders? Seems like someone coulda done it easily since you all appear to have iphones.

And maybe with the War Room closing we'll get a little more peace and a little less bashing going on up in the hill. The element that appeared at that bar and the surrounding parking lots always was no good and we all know it. So GOOD RIDDANCE.

@1: what are you talking about?

8:15am: offiicers shot
10:01am: CNN sends out national breaking news alert about the incident.
10:25am: first post about incident appears on slog.

What's this "nearly 3 hours" you're talking about? When did you want them to post about it, 8:16am?

Well if the comments had not been removed you would see there were folks talking on SLOG nearly two hours before it was first posted, that's what I'm talking about. It just seems that this paper, and blog by default, picks and chooses what to cover and claims that its more than it is which is-essentially an "fun"aggregator that brags about how good a job it does--specifically the ballard chop shop bust or whatever that thing was when they kept talking themselves up.

I was headed down to Tacoma this morning, heard it on the radio, then a friend called me and finally got to my office about 9 and just waited and waited and waited. I was hoping that slog would pick it up before the international news did. Which it did not. And CNNinternational for the first 30 minutes stated the shooting occurred in Seattle, at which point both sets of parents called me, thanks.

CNN also edits it's online postings in order to prevent itself from looking foolish--although they do note a change in story in the updated version typically.

They shoulda posted it sooner since they seem to brag about their newsiness so much. Having morning news posted at 4am is not all that great.

@4 - dude, I think I passed five vacant retail spaces that were open just a couple of months ago while walking to work from Fremont. It's not just music venues that are closing down.
