Today, Greg Bear reads at Seattle Mystery Bookshop. His newest book, Mariposa, is the second book in the Quantico series. You can probably buy the first book in the series here, too. (Hint: The first book is in paperback, and is therefore more affordable than the hardcover.) Bear is a local writer, and he's written some fine sci-fi novels over the years. This could be a good opportunity to check him out. Read Darwin's Radio if you want a good, standalone novel.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.

Darwin's Radio is one of my all-time favorite books. I don't like the sequel, Darwin's Children, as well, but I will forgive him much because of the true awesomeness that is DR.
