This Weekend

Posted by on Fri, Nov 27, 2009 at 3:23 PM

"Hey Lindy," somebody in the office just asked. "If I'm going to see one movie this weekend, which one should I see?"

Which began a whole conversation about the one whatevers people should see/read/do. Slog brings the results to you.

Lindy: People should see Fantastic Mr. Fox. It's the biggest movie happening now. And it's about a fox who speaks English and wears people-clothes. Can you imagine?

Paul: Read Boneshaker, a new science-fiction novel by Cherie Priest. It takes place in Seattle, it's got zombies and hot-air balloons and air pirates. It's like a blockbuster movie that's not completely stupid.

Bethany: Have a drink at the Copper Gate in Ballard. It's Scando with nudie pictures on the wall and a new room called The Pussy Room.

Jen: Meiro Koizumi at Seattle University. Because given the choice between making the healthy Kill Bill and the poisonous The Last Samurai, this filmmaker picks the poison.

Me: Equivocation at Seattle Rep—it's also like a blockbuster movie that's not completely stupid. And What Shakespeare in Love did for the young, Queen Elizabeth-era Shakespeare, Equivocation might do for the mature, late-career, King James-era Shakespeare. It's smart and tense and fun.

Charles Mudede: The end of the weekend is the end of one's weekly universe. It is not rare phenomenon; it happens 6 billion times every 7 days.

Megan Seling: Teehee! Ice cream and tacos and indie pop and Twitter!!

Dan Savage: Head over to Smith to get a couple microbeers and a grass fed beef burger with the kid. I sure do hope people can control their dogs!

David Schmader: LOL, women are dumb and slutty! Am I right???? Anyone? Hello...?

I, for one, would enjoy more of this. Unless @1-style comments are going to appear as regularly. Then, no.

#2, that's a great idea! If you have an idea you want to share, but there's a chance someone on the internet might be an asshole, don't post it. Imagine what the webs would look like if more blogs worked that way?

I'm actually reading Boneshaker. I'd be a lot happier with it if the book had been printed in black instead of brown ink. What was an interesting curiosity has turned into a pain in the arse that is giving my migraines migraines.
