A Word About the White House Party Crashers

Posted by on Fri, Nov 27, 2009 at 2:53 PM

The Service Director Mark Sullivan has issued this statement:

The Secret Service is deeply concerned and embarrassed by the
circumstances surrounding the State Dinner on Tuesday, November 24.

The preliminary findings of our internal investigation have determined
established protocols were not followed at an initial checkpoint,
verifying that two individuals were on the guest list.

Although these individuals went through magnetometers and other levels
of screening, they should have been prohibited from entering the event
entirely. That failing is ours...

The Balloon Boy, Ryan Jenkins, Sheriff Arpaio, the Sarah Palin Show—no amount of security can protect anyone in the hard world of facts from this fictional force that flows out of millions of flat and fat TV screens. Even the Secret Service is powerless.

Next time I take weed with me on my flight to SF, I'm going to follow this interloper's example and wear a tux. White guy in a tuxedo? "Next!"

The silver lining: When was the last time you heard anyone in government (or politics or media or sports or religion or damn near anywhere else) just straight out acknowledge that they screwed up? This alone makes me confident that the Secret Service will not allow itself to be fucked with again. I think Obama can actually feel a bit safer today.
