Yes, Happy Thanksgiving darlings! Put on your prettiest dress or your nattiest suit, and eat lots of turkey!

Me, I'll be slaving away in the kitchen, but don't let that bother you. I'm old, that's what us old people do.

Aw, shucks. I'm grateful for The Stranger, too. And the Slog, and all of the other commenters. Even the brain-dead unregistered. Happy Thanksgiving. Now: where's the whisky?

I wish I was at your house, Catalina. I'm flying to The Whitest City In The World, St. George, Utah. Sigh.

Fnarf, I live in Kanab! If you'll really be in St. George (which is indeed among the whitest of places), I should at least offer to treat you to a meal or something.

Kanab doesn't qualify as a city--it's barely a town!--but it's even whiter than St. George. Not one black person, not one asian, and the only two hispanics have assimilated to the extent that they're practicing LDS church members. It's terrible here.

I was just thinking, all that pinkish juice that comes out of a defrosted turkey pre-roasting, and is now soakng through my bathrobe, that doesn't have salmonella in it, does it?

@5 Carollani, you could mix my first H.B.R right now. Just for its antiseptic properties.

Happy T-Day, everybody!

You should read "In Search of Whitopia" -- it's got a nice chapter on St. George.

Did you know that the early version of Thanksgiving involved crossdressing and general rowdiness? Well it did! http://www.juancole.com/2009/11/thanksgi…

All the more reason it should be a Stranger-approved holiday!

Today I'm thankful for the final issue of Gourmet and its delectable-smelling vegetarian shepherd's pie. And to friends whose families are a delight to celebrate the day with.

In general, I'm grateful for having a job that engages my brain, and a spouse and family who love me. Thanks also to the wisdom of the Slog mob for all the pleasurable hours spent here.

@2: Catalina dear, I would have thought you had most of the cooking done ahead of time, leaving just the turkey and ample time to arrange centerpieces.

I'm thankful for the airport starbucks that provided me with this expertly made latte at 7am and the couch at gate A8 to curl up on as I wait to fly down South to visit my lovely family accompanied by my partner, the love of my life.

Raindrop, the table is set, and most of the sides are ready to just shove in the oven (or whatever they need to be shoved into) but I am having a teensy bit of refrigerator regret: We bought our refrigerator while grieving for our late cat, Sputnik, and it really doesn't have as much room as we need for big ordeals like this. Hence, there are some things I couldn't do yesterday that I might otherwise have.

Once I get that stupid turkey out of the fridge (have I mentioned I hate turkey?) the situation will be much better. But let this be a lesson to all of you: Never buy appliances while mourning the loss of a pet.

Right now I'm just immensely thankful for the strong cup of coffee and two aspirins that seem to be making a dent in my holiday-sized hangover - it's been a while since I've drunk at The Rickshaw and I forgot how generously they pour.

And a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you - may your day be filled with friends, family, loved ones and much laughter.

Happy Thanksgiving All,

You've blessed my life. I'm grateful for the Stranger and all of you on SLOG, you ask me to think outside the box.

I'll have a dram of whiskey in your honour. Bless you all.

Best wishes,

Happy Thanksgiving and best wishes to all, especially Dan, Charles, Lindy, Fnarf, 5280, kim, the two bacons (-pussy and -cat), Loveschild, schmacky, Akbar, etc, etc. etc.--everyone, in short, who posts here and comments. I've spent hundreds of hours on The Slogs this year, and I'm much the better off for reading all of you!

I've carved six turkeys today, scooped 60 portions of stuffing, and made two gallons of turkey gravy, so I'm about burned out on that stuff--personally, I'll be having rigatoni for TG Day, thank you.

I'm thankful to have spent Thanksgiving with a "special someone" for the first time since '06. He's a pain-in-the-ass closet case, but he's my pain-in-the-ass closet case. And a sweet guy to boot.
