"Support for the health care plan proposed by the President and Congressional Democrats has fallen to a new low of 38%. Sixty percent (60%) of voters believe passage of the bill will lead to higher health care costs."

Oh Dear. It looks like this is Ohio and one of the supporters was wearing a shirt from my alma mater. I hope that woman didn't actually go to Capital.

to be fair, I'm sure that you could easily find just as many people on the left who are as clueless about these topics.

@2 - There is no such thing as a health plan proposed by the president and Congressional Democrats. There are two bills in congress at the moment, one of which has yet to even be debated, let alone reconciled, passed and signed. The results of that survey are by definition pure conjecture.

wow Dan, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Lucky for the nation, planet and universe Obama's base is so fucking brilliant.
Cause, they voted for Obama, right?
That must prove it.
Cause look how much better the world is now.
Thanks to Obama's brilliant base.

How many times can they say, "I don't know." And FYI, Palin said on a recent interview that she knew as much as the American public about the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. Oh, that much, huh?

We are a nation of idiots. Ignorant, mindless idiots. And what's worse is people like this have an unusual amount of sway in the formation of our policies these days. These "Amurcans" and the officials representing them are slaughtering healthcare reform and the people we elected to fight it are cowering and folding to practically every tiny whim. Watching clips like this makes me so, so depressed.

@4 Yes, you probably could put together a similar video of uninformed lefties, but I think the difference is that it would be much more difficult to find an informed Sarah Palin supporter. As far as I can tell, she does not have much in the way of concrete policy ideas so knowing her stance on issues beyond some generalities is next to impossible.

We share an alma mater and I too found it concerning. It definitely looks like Ohio shortly before a game day. For everyone else, don't forget Ohio went blue in 2008 and there are many working to keep it that way.

@17 Yes they do vote, hence Bush and lots of the crazy Republicans in office.

I will say when I have discussion with Republicans, Centrists, or wingnuts, I usually end up hearing "Well, I am just not that informed on this...." or "I am just not as knowledgeable on that..." or something of the sort. These people have belief and commitment before they have any knowledge.

The country is suffering from an alarming lack of people capable of critical thought. There are times when I am not well informed on an issue but I am capable of sorting out the facts from the bullshit. These people are not. They just want to believe things that make them feel superior. These people are not interested in having highly intelligent leaders because that makes them feel stupid so they go for Sarah Palin.

You know, the country didn't get fucked up and lose its "shining light" status in 11 months.

Across the street from Russia? Seriously? What the fuck is he talking about?

Naturalizing illegal aliens? That happened under Reagan (see amnesty in the '80s)! Dumbasses.

Not a US citizen? He couldn't become President, via the US Constitution.

Parial birth abortion? Doesn't exist. Abortion is legal until a fetus is viable, which means that it can survive on its own outside the womb. A fetus prior to 25 weeks cannot survive outside the womb (save for VERY few exceptions who had an immense amount of medical assistance, and were just plain lucky enough not to die).

Abortion is legal, fuckers, and even if they outlawed it, it wouldn't keep women from having abortions. Keep 'em legal, keep 'em safe.

Anti-abortion people are very anti-woman. There are so many examples and studies and statistics (yes, I know, you can skew statistics to say whatever you want) that prove that if a woman doesn't want to stay pregnant and doesn't have access to a safe, legal abortion, she will have one by other means. And doing that could, at least, have her end up with an infection, make her sterile, or kill her. Jesus, these people just make me so upset.

However, if someone interviewed people waiting in line for an Obama book signing, you would end up with a few interviews like this, too.

Personally, I can't (in good conscience) vote for a Republican, seeing as how most that I've spoken to or heard interviews with are anti-gay, anti-immigrant, and anti-women's rights. I'm not saying the Democratic party doesn't have its share of bad apples, but I identify more with that base of being for equal rights than just tax cuts and such.

Why do men have a say in the abortion / birth control debate? The only influence a man has is whether or not he gets a woman pregnant. After that, her body, her choice. Back off, dudes, or we'll come after your viagra!

To quote Dean Wormer from Animal House, "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son."

Unfortunately, that's EXACTLY how many of these people DO go through life - and proudly so, seeing as an awful lot of them elevate intellect only slightly above pederasty on their scale of "Things They Despise".

Honestly, these good, God-fearing Christian Americans haven't got a clue as to what they want from government, except perhaps that they think they'd all be better off if it just went away completely and left them alone. And even if you tried to explain to them that the inevitable outcome: a short, brutal life filled with with toil, disease and impoverishment would be their reward, most would stare at you blankly while muttering some vague imprecation to "freedom" or "independence" or whatever.

These are people living in the 21st Century but possessing an overly romanticized mid-19th Century world-view, convinced that, if you just gave them a parcel of land and got the hell out of their way, they'd create a paradise-on-earth through their own effort and God's grace.

If that were to actually happen of course, I'd venture that roughly 70% would be dead within about a year at most, either from starvation, disease, or by their own or someone else's hand, frontier life being not-so-ideal as they seem to imagine.

But heck, I'm willing to give them a shot at it. Can we just turn Alaska into some sort of "Government-Free Zone", promise anyone who moves there 20 acres and a John Deer tractor and leave them to their own devices?

The catch of course would be that any person of maturity who wishes to return to civilization in less than five years has to reapply for American Citizenship, just like any other foreign-born immigrant, AND they have to sign a public declaration acknowledging they were a stupid fucking moron for thinking they could go it alone without any government support in the first place.

I bet, even with those conditions a whole lot of them would jump at the opportunity, and the rest of us in the Lower 49 would actually be able to move this country forward.

People like these, the conservative republican base, dislike the government because the gov't doesn't pander to them, doesn't give them a smile and a thank-you.

These people are being raped daily by private corporations, but they don't mind, because the corporations are raping them politely, making them feel special and important.

That's why they're so anti-government and pro-unfettered free market. Because they don't care if their life goes down the shitter as long as they get their asses kissed on the way down.

@39. Thank you for that. I laughed so hard I nearly choked.

"What's some of the spending you'd like to see cut?"
"All of it."

Oh, well then I hope you won't mind that I'm going to pass on to you my mandatory public service hours to keep our roads and bridges intact. Because I prefer to pay a few bucks in taxes each year to help keep them functional. And I hope you're a doctor or nurse (unlikely, being that you support Palin) that makes house calls, because without government assistance, our health care industry will implode in upon itself. Not to mention education, which is already in dire straits with what inadequate funding it gets now. But don't worry, I won't demand that you homeschool my children; I don't want you teaching anyone anything. But you'll foot the bill on their education, right?

"We're no longer the shining light, the beacon to the world of what a society should look to be, as far as freedom."

And clearly, that's Obama's fault, right? Not the feller who had the job previously, the one that ultimately gave the okay to torture our prisoners, that spied on his own citizens without warrants, who stole the election to begin with, etc, etc.

"As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. @39,

They're the inheritors of the dumbfucks John Smith had to forcibly put to work because they thought a new society would just sprout out of the ground.

@42,

I used to work customer service and I was incredibly efficient and good at my job, but multiple clients despised me because I didn't kiss their asses. So, I got laid off and was replaced by an incompetent, a very friendly, deferential incompetent. That's the only thing that counts in this country nowadays. Call me crazy; I'd rather a job be performed well.

@28-- Check out the New Left Media on YouTube. His guy does an even more hilarious and frightening visit to the Tea Party March in Washington D.C. I can excuse some dumbness from this book-signing crowd, but I really expect people who are protesting and waving signs at the Capital to, at the very least, understand what is on their own signs. (Nope.)

@25-- He probably heard "Bering Strait" and thinks they said "Bering Street". Many people hear words they don't know, and instead of thinking, "Hmm, a new word. Maybe I'll look it up", they assume it was just a mispronunciation of a common word they already know. Everybody does this once in a while, but some people live their lives this way. They go through their whole lives with weird ideas about the world, unless someone corrects them. It's cute when little kids do this; they often construct bizarre and creative explanations for words they misunderstand. I find it annoying when adults do it.
