If you see something, say something. Others of us are braving the elements to see it in person and will hold forth later.

I hate Kyle Beckerman's hair more than almost anything, but that anything includes Landon Goddamn Donovan and David Fucking Beckham. Gotta go with Salt Lake as the lesser of two evils.

It was hilarious to read Beckham in the paper today saying Seattle is "one of the places he'd like to play" in MLS. He had a lot of great things to say about the Galaxy, too, and I'm sure he'll be making all the same speeches when he fucks off back to Italy again tomorrow. He didn't seem too bothered about MLS for the two months he went missing after his Milan season ended but he still wasn't in LA.

Oh, come on -- Beckham played in England all winter long; this weather isn't unusual for him at all. This would be unseasonably mild for Manchester in February.

20 minutes in, Beckham's cut down one of their guys already. Morales has to come out for 80-year-old Clint Mathis. He's crying on the bench. The ref's protecting the Glimmer Twins.

MLS refs have no idea how to keep time. There should have been four minutes of injury time, or even five, for Morales's protracted injury.

Keller, interviewed at the half, totally has a career in sports commentary waiting for him. Good for him.

Keller speaks so well I think he could go into politics. Take us to the MLS Cup next year and he could be mayor.

@9: do you think he wants a career in commentary or managing a side?

I'm trying to think of a (relatively) great keeper who went on to manage a side...Arena himself played keeper...Raymond Goethals...

@9 pray to an atheist's god he doesn't become a sports commenter like fuckwad Keith Olbermann

@11. You're right, he would be a good manager. But I'm also thinking if MLS needs someone to sell the league to the rest of the nation, he could do it. (unrelated note - we should be there tonight, not Salt Lake. Sigh. Bless it and release it.)

@12. Yeah. (threadjack alert) Remember when Olbermann and Kilborn were actually fun? 62 minutes into the match we have a tie. Hell yeah!

@14 I don't remember when Olbermann was fun. Only in the last year or two heard of him when he's on the MSNBC news. Which radio dial is carrying the soccer game?

i never understood that added time stuff (4 mins into 7 mins added). that's penalty time i think?
Posted by dnt trust me on November 22, 2009 at 7:51 PM

@20 they keep track of the time play is stalled for whatever reason so that there are an actual 90 minutes of play total. AKA stoppage time. Thanks, wikipedia!

hmmm, yeah, that makes sense.

They should play a replay next week instead of overtime today, or kicks.

Does Metro have ANY capacity to prepare for huge masses of people like this?

It's Sunday. Buses are running limited schedules. I live in eastlake and went to catch a bus downtown to see a movie and grab dinner with friends. My normal 10 minute bus ride stretched into an hour in each direction on buses that were so over capacity that they were turning people away.

Yes, that hair. Horrible, eh? Too bad, cause he's an excellent player. We could use him next year. We could also take Olave, or Espindola, or Findley. I hate to say it, but I don't know how Freddys and the boys would've handled RSL tonight. LA? Cakewalk (pompous bastards). RSL was the surprise, despite the hair and mormon connections.

I'd never paid much attention to pro soccer/futbol before this past year and was sort of surprised to see a Cup game end the same way that my kids' soccer tournaments ended at Marymoor Park, with solo kicks against the keeper until one or the other team snuck an extra one in. I guess I'd sort of thought that was an arcane rule to settle a kids' version of the game...

So I watched it until extra time started, then I had to go get dinner. My opinion of MLS remains unchanged...it's an advanced version of adult co-rec, with people pinging the ball every which way in the air and swarms of people chasing the ball. It is, in a word, inelegant. But hey, it'll get there someday...

so Seattle gets all hip on soccer and "look at our attendance, we are so much cooler than the flyover red states" then Damn! if the Mormons don't come along and rule the soccer world...

sorry I didn't post - was watching the game with three teens (two of whom were relatives) - it was great!

still hard to believe it went into triple overtime with the goal shots! great game!

sad thing about Beckham is his wife, Posh Spice ... poor guy.

@42: the other teen being your imprisoned "girlfriend" who lives in the stone pit in the basement?

WIS, when you become as witty and successful as Victoria Beckham, please let us know. I'll be the first to congratulate you.
