Palin Goes to Fort Hood to Promote Going Rogue

Posted by Charles Mudede on Thu, Nov 19, 2009 at 3:08 PM

Unbelievable...

Sarah Palin is rolling her "Going Rogue" book tour into Fort Hood, the site of the Nov. 5 shooting that left 13 dead and dozens wounded.

"I'm especially looking forward to meeting our brave men and women in uniform at Fort Hood," Palin, 45, wrote on her Facebook page.

Don't blame the players, blame the game.

Geez, it appears to be my day to bitch on Slog. I have no personal animus against Ms. Palin, but I fail to see why she engenders so much interest? Besides being put forward as the GOP's VP candidate (She botched that job.), what has she ever done or said that merits this attention?

@1: Serious answer...

What she's DONE to merit attention:
She is THE leading contender for the Republican nomination in 2012. She COULD be President.

What she's SAID to merit attention:
Palin is a proud know-nothing. The prospect of her as President is credibly more dangerous than W. Her answer to Barbara Walters this week about settlements in Israel sure sounded as though she was expecting the End of Days. (Populations migrating to Israel? Really?) And that's just the start.

Let me see, she's admitted to:

1. Hating America's Government
2. Hating America's President
3. Hating America's Middle Class.

Next up, she'll officially form a sub group of al-Qaeda.

@1 - I think it has to do with the fact that she highlights how completely polarized our country is right now. A significant portion of the population is completely dumbfounded by her -- how did someone who is so clearly not qualified for public office come close to being VP? She is, objectively, not a person who has a solid grasp of the issues facing the world/the US and she doesn't seem capable of much in the way of critical thinking. And yet, she is being seriously discussed as a potential 2012 Presidential candidate.

This is shocking to many people, particularly considering that there is another portion of the population who loves her. Who looks at her and says, yep, she would be a great President.

I don't know, for me, I'm drawn to articles about her because I have no idea how two people with the same set of information about her could have such vastly different opinions. What are those people who love her and want her to be President thinking? The rational part of my brain thinks she has no shot at all in 2012, but I still get a bit of a nervous feeling in my stomach when I think about it. What if people really are that dumb?

Geez, it just wouldn't be Slog without our twice-daily update from the Sarah Palin Fan Club.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a flying fuck what the hell she's doing?

5280, I think Julie's comment sums it up nicely. Part of me wonders just how far she can really take this, while the other part just shakes its head in amused disbelief at her and her followers. Today's Salon article on her appearance in Michigan is just chock full of goodies.

FWIW, to me she's always been the female version of Greg Stilson from The Dead Zone.

Haven't the fine men and women of Ft. Hood suffered enough?

I hear you, laterite - it's like gawking at a car crash. Sorry, but I still don't get it, though.

@3 - and the mainstream media will STILL be afraid to seriously challenge her on her fringe ties

Is she going to Fort Hood for her book tour BECAUSE there was a massacre there? If so that is puke-worthy

her ghost writer is also nutjob:

there are some serious dog whistles going on with this book tour, and the mainstream media is aiding it.

Sarah Palin effectively moves the national political commentary wildly to the right. It's so very much more comfortable for Democrats to discuss Sarah Palin than the Obama Kleptocracy. Democrats are the new Republicans, rat bag sociopaths are the new Republicans.
