The Quotable Sarah Palin

Posted by on Tue, Nov 17, 2009 at 2:51 PM

Fish in a barrel, I know. But the blender of cliches that is Sarah Palin never ceases to amaze. Her thoughts on the Newsweek cover:

The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin.

I often judge books by their gender.

THE KONFUSE OF THE MUSE TO CONFUSE MEANS ONLY THAT HATERS WIN AND NOZZLES LOSE.

I'd like to listen in on a conversation between Sarah Palin and Yogi Berra.

You know, I never buy books that have a green skin on them. When I see a green skin on a book I immediately become judgemental.

Can we judge a book for wearing nylons with sneakers?

Sooooo, this image, taken for the cover of a fitness magazine is "sexist" and being used "out of context" because it ended up on the cover of a news magazine instead?

Oooooookay then.

I'll bet Todd Palin has a whole collection of books bound in human skin.

So she's basically showing her legs to get attention and then calling anybody who looks at her legs sexist?

For some reason, this quote jumped into my head: “It’s a thousand-year-old witch book bound in mummified skin and probably written in ancient cum.” She says to Helen, “You lick it.”

So now I'm some sort of sexist because I keep the male books and the female books on separate shelves? Up yours, Sarah!

She's obviously an avid reader of David Hume. "Suppose that there is a natural, universal, invariable language, common to every individual of human race; and that books are natural productions, which perpetuate themselves in the same manner with animals and vegetables, by descent and propagation."

She has a point. If Ash and his friends had judged the Necronomicon by it's skin, he wouldn't have ended up with a chainsaw where his hand is supposed to be.

@6 - no, cause we have people who wear socks with sandals around here.

Yeah, the same way women who wear tight, low-cut tank tops with push-up bras get offended when they notice you staring at their boobs.

So what she's saying is we shouldn't judge Newsweek by its cover because the articles inside might be really good?

I dislike Sarah Palin as much as anyone here, but actually I think that Newsweek cover is kind of sexist. I see that she phrased her comment poorly, but the point is still there. She may be a crappy politician, but that's what she is: a politician. It definitely seems disingenuous for Newsweek to use a photo from Runner's World to illustrate an article about a politician's book about politics. However crappy it is.

Or does everyone already agree with that point and we're just making fun of her inability to articulate well? In which case, carry on.

Can we bin the Sarah Palin items? She doesn't exercise any political power, and it's like listening to the Real Housewives of Orange County hold forth on national security policy.

@13- Actually, I think he would NOT have ended up with a chainsaw where his hand used to be. Perhaps judging a book by it's skin is a good idea. (Calf good, human bad)

I'm with 20. I know everyone needs a scapegoat but I don't understand the obsession with her. (Or Glenn Beck for that matter. He's a goddamned TV show, too.)

@17:

Palin is an EX-politician.

And personally I think it's blatantly hypocritical of her to, on the one hand, allow herself to be photographed in this manner for what one can only conclude was an unabashed bid for publicity, and then on the other hand cry "sexist!" when said photograph actually provides her with publicity, albeit admittedly not of the flattering sort one gathers she originally intended.

Additionally, it is standard practice in the industry to have the subjects of photo shoots sign a release that grants legal ownership of the image to its creator, and which in turn grants them the right to use it in any manner they deem appropriate, so long as such use does not cause harm to the subject.

I think Palin would have one heck of a challenge trying to convince a judge or jury that "Newsweek"'s use of a photograph she voluntarily assented to pose for constitutes "harm" to her in this context.

Hahahahaha. Obviously, she's decided to "go rogue" on logic and grammar, too.

And is it just me, or is she REALLY WHINY in this book of hers? She seems to complain about EVERYTHING - getting dragged out of obscurity onto the cover of Newsweek is certainly a GOOD thing, especially if you're an indefatigable attention-seeking media whore. Surely? (DON'T CALL ME SHIRLEY!*)

*I apologize in advance if this joke is too old.

This argument that the photo shouldn't be used would hold some water if she had not willingly stepped into the spotlight of public office (then contending for the second most powerful position in the country), and POSING for said photograph.

If she's so pissed about this photo going to Newsweek, maybe her lawyer should take it up with Runner's World. But, since she probably signed an agreement that bars her from doing so as @23 stated, she's doing what she always does: crying foul when none has been committed. It got her sympathy when Letterman made jokes about her, it got the media to handle her with kid gloves since...ever, so why not keep doing it if it works?

I'm not a Sarah Palin fan,I think she looks good with shorts and pantyhose.
I wear Shorts and Pantyhose myself and don't see anything wrong with it. It makes my legs look and feel better. I've see more and more younger girls/ladies wearing Hose with shorts as well. As a matter of fact, this past weekend my husband and I noticed 3 different girls at the local mall wearing them. I have also rec'd some nice remarks from men, and women as well. Women ask wear I purchased the hose I have on, and men just plain love the look. So does my husband.
