Slog Tipper Matthew wanted to make sure that everybody out in Slog land saw this: R2-D2's cameo in the Star Trek reboot has finally been confirmed by Industrial Light and Magic. The poor beeping bastard is hurtling through outer space with a bunch of other debris in a space disaster. Why couldn't Tom Cruise have done a cameo in Star Trek instead?

Is it nerdy to know about the R2D2 on the side of the mothership in Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

In "The Empire Strikes Back" during the asteroid part, one of the asteroid is a potato.

Also, same movie, when everyone is evacuating Cloud City, one guy runs by carrying a sno-cone machine.

Can we stop pretending that star wars and trek are nerdy? that shit is so mainstream now....you want to know what nerdy is? making a droid at home from scraps of metal and old broken TV sets. Nerdy is not consuming mass produced TV and movies that literally 99% of the population knows about then twittering new information about it from your iPhone.

kids these days think that loading a new app on your iphone is hacking.......jesus christ.....

@6 nomenclature and coinage are more screwed up today than ever. spelling Sarah Palin has become such a no-brainer, that nurds will soon be spelled differently to the media writer, dumbed down, and out on capitol hill..

JJ already made Star Trek into Star Wars (seriously, there are way too many identical scenes) so its only fitting.

What makes me sad is that people ate this up and thought it was good.
