Dick Cheney/Sarah Palin 2012?

Posted by on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 8:04 AM

Be afraid...

Liz Cheney says that whoever runs for the White House on the GOP ticket in 2012—and, gee, why not her father?—that person, if he or she wins, "will have to undo a lot of the damage... that this president has done to our national security, to our economy, to our health care system, to our standing around the world." She's referring to the damage done by Barack Obama in 10 months, not the damage done by George W. Bush over eight years. Says Sullivan:

We are nine months into Obama's first term. He inherited two disastrous and failed wars, a recession steeper than any since the Great Depression, countless prisoners of war imprisoned in a gulag in Cuba and largely unprosecutable because of torture illegally authorized by the former president, $5 trillion of debt accrued in eight years by Dick "deficits don't matter" Cheney, alliances frayed to near-collapse, and a total failure in eight years to do anything about climate change. And she actually says that a Republican in 2013 will have to cope with the damage Obama has done to the country! And she talks about America's "standing in the world"! Yes, this is the world she inhabits, a world of shamelessness, cynicism and contempt for this country's stability and health. She is her father's daughter.

Do you mean 2012? I assume so.

I disagree with Liz's claim that it's sexist to not consider her a serious candidate. I think it's fair to consider her a running joke just because of the amount damage she did to McCain's campaign.

Also Liz is a woman and is therefore likely wrong.

Do people forget what Dick Cheney has said whenever he or his sneering female clone open their mouths? Seriously? What's with the shock? Or is this mockery? If it's the latter, then I'm totes on board, y'all.

"Bow-gate"? Who the hell cares if he shows respect to a foreign Asian leader by bowing? It's a sign of respect, not a sign of allegiance, but how would anyone associated with Fox News know anything about respecting others? Seeing as how even when Repukelicans are in power, they bitch about them.

And yeah, I think he meant 2012. Perhaps he's still recovering from that Fat Tire.

It's the equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded theater to lie so boldly in public. If people believe her, innocent people will die. America believed Bush and Cheney's lies, and it cost nearly a million civilian lives, bankrupted the country, robbed the middle and lower classes, destroyed the value of the dollar, and led our country to a new moral low point. Fox News and their overlords have to be stopped.

41: A bow is pretty meaningless, full or half. Obama bows to the Saudi king, and everyone shits themselves. The Bush family HANDS OVER a pretty fucking significant portion of our economy to the Saudis, and nobody gives two shits as long as he does it while doing that stupid macho fake-cowboy strut of his.

I know image is important and all, but we shouldn't have gotten to a point where a bow at the beginning of a meeting is more important than the negotiations of the meeting itself. If Obama sells out to a foreign leader, the problem will have nothing to do with a fucking bow. It would be with weak negotiations AFTER the bow. The fact that our country got its panties in a twist over this bow says more about our weird need for fake machismo in everything we do than it does about what actually will and won't affect negotiation. The Saudis themselves probably would have forgotten all about it if there weren't all these American headlines about "OBAMA BOWS TO NONCHRISTIAN WORLD LEADER"

@44 you're quite correct, but in my opinion the Obama bow is a bit much is all. It just seems demeaning for our leader to stare at the floor obediently when meeting an unelected figurehead. And its fun to watch the mental gymnastics of the die hard Obama fans who must rationalizing every misstep.

And religion really has nothing to do with it. Just don't grovel.

I'm not rationalizing his bow; I'm saying it's meaningless (assuming you're talking about me there). I'd be rationalizing if I tried to argue that the bow was necessary. I'm merely arguing that it's insignificant and not nearly worth the shitstorm it caused (I scoffed a little when I saw it, and that's about the extent of what everyone else should have done).

Who is calling people names? Besides yourself, I mean. And it is really cute that those who criticize the president are lumped into an arbitrary group of "Obama haters" that need to be ignored or shunned.

Is it possible that there those of us who voted for the man and are increasingly underwhelmed by his performance? Hmmm?

Way to add to conversation Mike in MO. Thanks!

Again, Obama was trying to show respect, same as any other President who has greeted another World Leader in his / her native language. It's being polite and respectful, much like giving up your seat on the bus if it's full to an elderly person. It's not that big a deal! But it's also Fox News, and they'll find ANY reason at all to bitch about the President, no matter which party he belongs to.

You know, I'm not sure Mary Cheney is the only lesbian daughter of his. She (Liz) very strongly reminds me of my cousin's partner. (Not insulting her or the lesbians, just making an observation)

Rotten, "full bow" and "half bow" get no responses on the first page of Google hits. Everyone understood what you meant, but you essentially made up terms. "Half bow" might as well be a nod of the head that accidentally carries part of your upper body with it. The bow was over in seconds. He did not kneel. He did not prostate himself. He did not grovel. He did nothing unseemly at all, except do perhaps too much honor to someone who places a great store by honor.

For you to pretend that this is a misstep by Obama, let alone "staring at the floor obediently" or laying "down like a dog in front of them", is to admit that unless you want everyone to think you have the smallest dick on the beach, you have to wear tight, colorful speedos. The same people who cringe at the thought of a President with a little humility are absolutely terrified that someone, somewhere knows how small their penis is.

And maybe you know a little more about bowing than other people, but you sure as hell don't know the difference between a king and an emperor.

I think they both WERE in 2012. You can see them in one shot, where a bunch of people get killed in an avalanche: Palin's the figure eating a baby's brains and Cheney's the one shooting random civilians. (Sorry, bad movie joke. For a better joke, see the unregistered comment @ 28. FTW!)

Rotten666, it's called manners. Obama's not groveling, he's being polite--something he does a lot with foreign leaders, in large part to make up for the Bush family either puking on them, rubbing their shoulders creepily, holding their hand, or ignoring them outright.

We're not beholden to the Japanese (like we are to the Chinese, thanks to Bush's disastrous economic "policies"); the Emperor is a figurehead, not a world leader; Fox News and co. making this an issue are once again making Americans laughing stocks around the world. I wish someone would genetically engineer H1N1 that targets willfully ignorant evangelical hard-right dunderpates, the world would be so much nicer without them...

@27 Fantastic

As an almost American I would like to see a Cheney/Palin ticket. Because they should loose convincingly. Hopefully that could create a more pragmatic and sensible centrist Government in the USA.

At the same time, Barack does need to deliver and not just make incredible speeches. Unfortunately it will take decades to truly repair the incredible damage GW Bush and his cronies did to a great country.

@44 and 55: Thank you thank you thank you thank you. The whole "Bow-gate" thing actually enraged me more than the first part (except maybe the bit where she talks about Obama ruining our standing in the world--THAT made me want to kill something). Okay, so the bow wasn't perfect or perfectly Japanese. It still a) was not a big deal, b) went over well here (I live in Japan), and c) showcased the fact that Obama sets store by diplomacy (something the Right appears to have confused with machismo). Seriously, wtf, Cheney?
