Some Folks Have All the Luck

Posted by on Fri, Nov 13, 2009 at 2:16 PM

This just in from my lucky, lucky sister-in-law Ronda:

Today at the studio we received a box with 17 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA in it! Turns out the package originated in AZ and someone used our UPS acct number and mailing address to send to NY. The receiver refused the box so it was "returned" to us...even though we, of course, did not send it. UPS guy had to report it and we called our local narcotics office...all said it had a street value of $20k! Tried to get the local news out but Hurricane Ida has got everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off so we didn't get on tv :o(

I considered including the type of studio Ronda operates and the city in which it is operated but I don't want my family hunted down by drug lords furious about their missing 17 pounds of pot. So let's just say it's a studio with a UPS account in a part of the country that's concerned about Hurricane Ida.

Moot point, seeing as they already know where she is because they used her account number and address... and for that matter, is she sure it wasn't someone at her studio?

Also, she was perfectly happy to put the story on the news, so my weirdness about privacy is double moot.

So how much was actually in the box when your sister-in-law got it? 20 pounds? 25?

If I did the math right....thats about 9 bucks an 8th. So either for the first time ever the cops did not hyper inflate the value, or this guy I know has been getting ripped off for years.

Well, that answers my question about whether people send drugs via UPS.

Well, you don't want to waste the authorities' time, do you? So it follows that the suspected marijuana should be thoroughly tested to verify that it's not just 17 lbs. of oregano or something.

what's lucky about turning 17 pounds of weed over to the cops?

Lucky is receiving an unexpected hand delivered package containing 17 pounds of the sticky-icky. Turning said package over to the authorities who proceeded (I'm sure) to conduct their own kind of puff-puff-pass research is just plain old stupid (no offense to your SIL Ronda).

@9 is right. They'd rather seize the office as "confiscated property" in a bust than see justice be done.

17 lbs x 16 ounces/lb x $300/ounce = $81600. That's for your average Seattle weed. Assume theirs isn't as good, and only goes for $20 an eighth and it's still $43520. They must be looking at substantial wholesale discounts there.

This may be the first time I've ever seen the cops understate the value of a pot seizure.

@11 - yes, but do we know the local market there?

I guarantee there's no place in the US where you can buy an eighth of weed for less than $10.

I doubt any drug lord would give a shit about a measly 17lbs getting lost. The person who refused to sign for it might owe some money.

@13 You must not have been to AZ. Their pot is so shitty a half ounce can go for 30 bucks- seriously.

And BTW, how is this even lucky in any way for your sister in law? Sounds more like one giant let down to me.
