Mallahan's Defeat Grows

Posted by on Thu, Nov 12, 2009 at 5:45 PM

Not that it changes the election's outcome, but the man endorsed by labor unions, business interests, the governor, the Seattle Times—all of the supposed power brokers who run this town, or so we thought—is now being defeated by 5,714 votes. That's a three-percent gap. The latest results on Joe Mallahan's loss are here.

@3: So, yeah, it turns out that when unregistered commenters express approval for other unregistered commenters, they are automatically the same person.

As with rule 34, no exceptions.

Dominic, even after the election you continue to provide the most inane political coverage seen in this town since ... well ... ever.

I just tried to imagine a scenario in which the McGinn campaign could've given them a chance to do any different. Nope.

And yet here you are, Juvenile UR, lapping it up. Priceless.

Talk about kicking a man when he's down.

Who do you think is going to fund all those "web newspaper" startups?!

Give the guy a break!

(Now can I have a few million, Mr. Mallahan?)

It's not exactly a timely or original thought, but why are all the supposed power brokers bellyaching about having an instant winner? Their arguments are quite lame.

In fact, imagine how, dare I say, the history of this century might be different if we had the patience count ballots in such a way as to ensure that everybody's vote was properly counted. See: Florida, 2000.

I propose Joe Mallahan for Vice Mayor of one of the Four Seattles.

Joe for Vice Mayor of Downtown, to rule from 45th south to Columbian North -- or there abouts -- in support of Hizzoner Mike.

For the record I would like to point out that, while SOME labor unions and organizations voted to support Mallahan, in some specific instances these were not unanimous decisions, and that a lot of rank-and-file union members might well have decided to buck their individual local's/council's endorsements.

Just sayin': some of us folks in the labor community did in fact vote FOR McGinn.

Oh and Note To Will In Seattle: Notice how QUIET things have gotten around here now that most of your predictions have come to pass?

Eerily quiet. Like, crawled off in a corner to lick their wounds quiet...

Is politically incorrect to mention that Saint Tina Podlodowski also supported Mallahan ??

@12 - I know, victory is sweet.

Note that the smart ones like Tim Ceis jumped to county, which, in the end, will be very very good for Seattle.

Take home message: Seattle is BACK!

@13 - sure, she's a friend of mine. And our close race helped with 71, 1033, and the KC Exec race so it's all cool.
